Governor Whitmer Makes Appointments to CMU Board of Trustees and EMU Board of Regents

Governor Whitmer Makes Appointments to CMU Board of Trustees and EMU Board of Regents 

LANSING, Mich. — Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the following appointments the Central Michigan University Board of Trustees and Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents.  

Central Michigan University Board of Trustees 

Regine Beauboeuf, of Bloomfield Hills, is the senior vice president and director of engineering operations for HNTB Corporation. She previously worked as the vice president and area manager for Parsons and as a supervising engineer with the Michigan Department of Transportation. Ms. Beauboeuf is the president of the Michigan Chapter of the Conference of Minority in Transportation Officials (COMTO), and a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies Institute of Business National Management Committee and National Transportation Committee. She is a licensed professional engineer and holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the National University of Haiti and a Master of Business Administration from Davenport University. Ms. Beauboeuf is appointed for a term commencing March 5, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2028. She succeeds Tricia Keith whose term expired December 31, 2020. 

Sharon L. Heath, of Novi, is recently retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan where she served as the director of customer experience. Ms. Heath worked for BCBSM for 35 years, first starting as a member service representative and holding numerous leadership roles with the company over the years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Professional and Technical Writing from Madonna University and a Master of Science in Health Services Administration from Central Michigan University. Ms. Heath is appointed for a term commencing March 5, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2028. She succeeds William Weideman whose term expired December 31, 2020. 

Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents 

Chad A. Newton, of Plymouth, is the CEO of the Wayne County Airport Authority. He began his career as a police officer with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department where his primary responsibilities included patrolling Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Mr. Newton transitioned to the Wayne County Airport Authority Police Department when the Authority was formed in 2002 and he advanced through the ranks becoming the vice president of public safety. Mr. Newton is a veteran of the United States Army where he served as military police. He is a graduate of the Army Primary Leadership Development course and the FBI National Academy. Mr. Newton holds an accredited airport executive certification from the American Association of Airport Executives, a Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice and a Master of Science in Technology Studies and Law Enforcement from Eastern Michigan University. Mr. Newton is appointed for a term commencing March 5, 2021 and expiring December 31, 2026. He succeeds Richard Baird who has resigned. 

Article VIII § 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963 establishes that Michigan’s institutions of higher education, that are established by law as having authority to grant baccalaureate degrees, shall each be governed by a Board of Control which shall be a body corporate. The Board has general supervision of the institution and the control and direction of all expenditures from the institution’s funds. The Board also, as often as necessary, elects a president of the institution under its supervision. Each Board of Control consists of eight members appointed by the Governor for eight-year terms.  

These appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
