Gov. Whitmer Announces 90 New Jobs, more than $3 Million Expansion Project in Oakland County

LANSING, Mich. – Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced electrical components manufacturer Methode Electronics Inc. has relocated its headquarters and principal office presence from Chicago to Southfield (Oakland County). The $3.7 million in capital investment will create at least 90 new jobs and establish the company’s future in Michigan.

“Today, we are investing in our auto industry by landing big projects and creating jobs for Michiganders,” said Governor Whitmer. “I’m grateful to Methode Electronics Inc. for making Michigan their new home. This announcement will create 90 new, good-paying jobs for Michiganders and build on our statewide momentum. Let’s keep working together to show that Michigan is the best place to build the future.”

“The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is proud to support investments that strengthen Michigan’s economy and reinforce our communities as destinations for business growth,” said Matt McCauley, Senior Vice President of Regional Development at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “We welcome Methode’s decision to establish its headquarters in Southfield, a testament to the strength of Michigan’s business environment and the talent found throughout our state. This investment will create new opportunities, support quality jobs, and contribute to the continued growth and vitality of the Southfield community.”

The company’s goal is to create a centralized, branded headquarters that reflect Methode’s legacy and forward-looking vision across its core markets: automotive, commercial vehicle, and industrial.

“Our move to Southfield is a natural next step in Methode's transformation,” said Jon DeGaynor, president and CEO of Methode. “Being closer to our customers and the broader Detroit automotive network strengthens our ability to operate strategically, collaborate more effectively, and position the company for long-term success."

The newly created jobs will have a starting wage of $29.41 per hour plus benefits, which is nearly $5 more than the Regional Median Wage. Support for the company’s relocation efforts come through a Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant in the amount of $900,000, approved by the Michigan Strategic Fund.

“Methode’s relocation of their headquarters to Southfield is a significant investment, which demonstrates the company’s confidence in our workforce,” said Oakland County Executive David Coulter. “This strategic shift toward the automotive sector strengthens Oakland County’s thriving tech ecosystem and highlights our world-class technical talent."

Methode was founded in 1946 by entrepreneur and engineer William J. McGinley in Chicago, Illinois. With an initial investment of just $1,000, McGinley built the business on a core philosophy of innovation, precision manufacturing, and close collaboration with customers.

Today, the company operates in 14 countries and employs more than 6,500 people worldwide. Prior to the move, Methode had 59 Michigan-based employees and projects the creation of 90 additional jobs by 2030. The company manufactures and produces electrical components that are essential in various sectors of the global economy, from automotive and aerospace to commercial vehicle and industrial applications. Methode’s operations have brought high-quality manufacturing jobs, advanced engineering roles, and sustained investment to the communities it calls home.

“Methode’s decision to relocate its headquarters to Southfield is another strong indication of the Detroit Region's competitive strengths. Companies continue to choose our region because of our leadership in advanced manufacturing, exceptional talent, and collaborative approach to helping businesses grow,” added Justin Robinson, President & CEO of Detroit Regional Partnership. “We are proud to welcome Methode Electronics and support its next chapter of success.”

“Southfield is proud to support Methode as it establishes its global headquarters in our city,” added Southfield Mayor Kenson Siver. “This investment will bring quality jobs, strengthen our local and regional economy, and build on Southfield’s commitment to supporting business growth and innovation.”

“I’m proud to support this grant for Methode Electronics as we welcome them and their new headquarters to Southfield,” said state Rep. Samantha Steckloff (D-Farmington Hills). “I am grateful for their investment in the community and look forward to seeing them and their employees thrive as they bring this essential industry to our area.”
