March 8, 2021: Volunteers of America Day

WHEREAS, Volunteers of America (VOA) Michigan will celebrate its' 125th anniversary of serving this year; and,

 

WHEREAS, since its establishment, VOA Michigan has been deeply committed to serving individuals and communities in need and creating volunteer opportunities for people to spread joy and service to others; and,

 

WHERAS, their programs focus on care that addresses the needs of the community's disadvantaged and ensure pathways for participants to achieve self-sufficiency; and,

 

WHEREAS, VOA Michigan provides help for the homeless, food for the hungry, employment and shelter for veterans, housing for poor seniors, and a helping hand for struggling families; and,

 

WHEREAS, VOA Michigan is one of the state's largest private providers of services to veterans and is one of the largest nonprofit providers of housing to vulnerable seniors; and,

 

WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, VOA has worked above and beyond to help millions of individuals and families obtain food, shelter, and other critical services;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 8, 2021 as Volunteers of America Day in Michigan.
