April 3-11, 2021: Robotics Week

WHEREAS, Robotics Week is a time to inspire students in robotics and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)-related fields, share in the excitement for robotics across all ages, and foster a culture of innovation; and,
WHEREAS, robotics aims to fuel a broad array of applications in fields as diverse as manufacturing and order fulfillments, health care, national defense and security, agriculture, and transportation. At the same time, robotics enables students of all ages to learn important STEM concepts and inspire them to pursue careers in STEM fields; and,
WHEREAS, Robotics Week is aimed at increasing public awareness of the strength and importance of the robotics industry and of the tremendous social and cultural impact that robotics will have on the future; and,
WHEREAS, the State of Michigan has consistently provided support for school-based robotics programs; and,
WHEREAS, during this school year, over 2,100 robotics teams at all levels and programs representing more than 400 districts across the state applied for robotics grants. Michigan ranks second for having the most robotics teams in the nation, and Michigan's high schools ranks first among the nation's high schools; and,
WHEREAS, despite the pandemic, Michigan students have had access to high-quality STEM-robotics programming that addresses state safety protocols and provides virtual learning/competition options that have kept students engaged in high-quality STEM activities; and,
WHEREAS, robotics programs offer students a tangible application of classroom lessons, giving them hands on experiences to build skills and interests leading to college and career pathways in well-paying technical fields; and,
WHEREAS, the MiSTEM Network's efforts have supported the expansion and integration of robotics education in all four learning spaces (in school, out of school, at home, and in community organizations) in order to engage students, families, and communities from where they are, building a stronger STEM culture throughout Michigan;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 3-11, 2021 as Robotics Week in Michigan.
