March 2022: Nutrition Month
February 16, 2022
WHEREAS, food is the substance by which life is sustained; and,
WHEREAS, the type, quality, and amount of food that individuals consume each day plays a vital role in their overall health and physical fitness; and,
WHEREAS, there is a need for continuing nutrition education and a wide-scale effort to enhance healthy eating practices; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we join with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Division and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, as well as many local and regional dietetic associations statewide to celebrate and raise awareness and support of the important role nutrition plays in our daily lives. This year's theme 'Celebrate a World of Flavors' embraces global cultures, cuisines and inclusivity;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 2022 as Nutrition Month in Michigan, and I encourage all citizens to celebrate the varied flavors of our world and the unique and important role nutrition plays in achieving optimal health.
