March 6 - 12, 2022: School Social Work Week

WHEREAS, school social workers serve as integral members of a community's education team, playing a central role in creating a positive environment at schools; and,

 

WHEREAS, school social workers are especially skilled in identifying and providing services to students who face serious challenges to school success, including poverty, special needs, discrimination, abuse, addiction, bullying, loss of a loved one, depression, and other barriers to learning; and,

 

WHEREAS, local school districts should strongly value and continue to work with school social workers to address students' social, emotional, physical, mental health, and environmental needs so that students may achieve academic success;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Sunday, March 6 - 12, 2022, as School Social Work Week in Michigan, and commend its observance to all citizens.
