May 2022: International Internal Audit Awareness Month

WHEREAS, internal auditors worldwide are viewed as the right arm of management, providing analyses, evaluation, recommendations, counsel, and information regarding activities they review; and,

WHEREAS, internal auditing is an independent and objective assurance activity designed to add value and improve an organization’s operations; and,

WHEREAS, internal auditing is a vital part of strengthening organizations and protecting stakeholders of both the public and private sectors; and,

WHEREAS, internal auditors help an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes; and,

WHEREAS, internal auditing helps identify and manage the organization’s risks and ensure policies, procedures, and controls are in place and working appropriately; and,

WHEREAS, the Institute of Internal Auditors is an international professional association representing more than 190,000 members in business, industry, government, and education in more than 100 countries; and,

WHEREAS, the Institute of Internal Auditors has established and issued the “Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing”; and,

WHEREAS, 2022 marks the 81st anniversary of the Institute of Internal Auditors, which continues to serve not only the members and certified internal auditors in Michigan, but the internal auditing profession as a whole;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 2022 as International Internal Audit Awareness Month in Michigan.
