November 26, 2022: Beat the Buckeyes Day

WHEREAS, the University of Michigan and Ohio State University football teams first met back in 1897 when the Wolverines beat the Buckeyes 34-0; and,
WHEREAS, since that first meeting, the two football teams have battled 117 times; and,
WHEREAS, the Wolverines lead the series 59-51-6; and,
WHEREAS, in 2021, the Michigan Wolverines defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes in a 42-27 victory and went on to win the Big Ten Championship; and,
WHEREAS, this year, both the Wolverines and the Buckeyes enter “The Game” undefeated; and,
WHEREAS, the 2nd ranked Buckeyes and the 3rd ranked Wolverines will face off at 12:00 p.m. EST on November 26 in Columbus; and,
WHEREAS, the stakes are high as both teams eye a bid to the College Football Playoff, with the outcome of this match surely determining the winner of the Big Ten East Conference; and,
WHEREAS, we encourage all Michiganders – even the Spartans – to come together to cheer the Michigan Wolverines to victory;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 26, 2022, as Beat the Buckeyes Day in Michigan.
