WHEREAS, mental health affects our emotional, psychological, and social well-being; and,
WHEREAS, a lack of mental health awareness can lead to devastating impacts on the wellbeing of individuals and society; and,
WHEREAS, mental health advocates work to reduce stigma surrounding mental health and provide resources for people in need; and,
WHEREAS, mental health advocates empower Michiganders to better maintain relationships, take care of ourselves and our families, and adapt to daily life changes; and,
WHEREAS, mental health advocates provide support for people experiencing nearly 200 different mental illnesses; and,
WHEREAS, we join with mental health advocates across the state to uplift struggling Michiganders and work toward a state where everyone can receive the support they need; and,
WHEREAS, on this day, we offer our support to the dedicated mental health advocates who support Michiganders through challenges to their mental health and living with mental illnesses;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 10, 2023, as Mental Health Advocates Day in Michigan.
