May 16, 2025: Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation (CDG) Awareness Day

WHEREAS, Congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDGs) are a group of over 100 rare metabolic disorders that affect the body’s organs and nervous system, leaving children, adolescents and adults impaired with significant physical and developmental disability; and,

WHEREAS, CDGs are often under-diagnosed and misdiagnosed with only approximately 1,800 cases diagnosed globally, and 350 cases currently reported in the United States; and,

WHEREAS, lack of awareness and knowledge of CDGs contributes to under-diagnosis and difficulties in accessing specialized services, proper care, and support; and,

WHEREAS, early diagnosis of CDGs is important to ensure timely management of clinical complications, appropriate medical monitoring, genetic counseling, and when available, disease specific treatment;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 16, 2025 as Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation (CDG) Awareness Day in Michigan.
