WHEREAS, the United Nations was founded on October 24, 1945, with the mission of promoting global peace, security, and human rights; and
WHEREAS, this year marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, celebrating eight decades of dedicated work in humanitarian aid, sustainable development, and fostering international cooperation; and
WHEREAS, the City of Detroit is home to a dedicated chapter of the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA), which works to educate and inspire our community about the vital work of the UN and its impact on our daily lives; and
WHEREAS, the principles of the United Nations—dignity, equality, and justice—align with the values of Michigan, and recognizing UN Day reaffirms our commitment to being a global community, dedicated to addressing shared challenges and creating a better world for all;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 24, 2025 United Nations Day in Michigan.
