August 11, 2026: Poll Worker Recruitment Day

WHEREAS, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission has designated August 11, 2026, as National Poll Worker Recruitment Day to promote civic participation and to recognize the essential role poll workers play in conducting secure, accessible, and transparent elections; and,

WHEREAS, dedicated citizens from diverse backgrounds serve as poll workers in communities across our state and nation, demonstrating integrity, professionalism, and a shared commitment to upholding free and fair elections; and,

WHEREAS, the veterans and military families of our state exemplify a lifelong commitment to service, continuing to strengthen their communities beyond military service by supporting the administration of elections and protecting every citizen’s right to vote; and,

WHEREAS, Vet the Vote, a national initiative of We the Veterans and Military Families, advances this tradition of service by partnering with election officials and civic organizations nationwide to recruit and highlight 250,000 veterans and military family members to serve as poll workers in honor of America’s 250th anniversary;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, Governor of the State of Michigan do hereby proclaim August 11, 2026, as MICHIGAN POLL WORKER RECRUITMENT DAY in the State of Michigan and I encourage all citizens to recognize and support the dedicated veterans, military families, and poll workers whose civic leadership and service help sustain and strengthen our democracy.
