November 25, 2025: Adoption Day

WHEREAS, Adoption Day in Michigan, established in 2003 by the Michigan Supreme Court and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), is a day to celebrate the life-changing power of adoption and the joy of family; and,

WHEREAS, adoptions are finalized throughout the year, Adoption Day shines a special spotlight on extraordinary moments. On this day, courts across Michigan open their doors to honor families who open their hearts and homes, and to celebrate the children whose lives are forever enriched by the love, security, and permanence of a family; and,

WHEREAS, we recognize and give thanks to the judges, attorneys, adoption professionals, and all those who dedicate their time, energy, and compassion to making these joyous moments possible; and,

WHEREAS, those interested in learning more about adoption are encouraged to contact the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange, an MDHHS-contracted service at 800-589-6273 or visit MARE.org;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, November 25, 2025, as Adoption Day in Michigan, and invite all Michigan residents to join in celebrating the power of love, the promise of family, and the bright futures of our children.
