Spring weight restrictions

Effective 7 a.m. Friday, May 15, MDOT will lift the remaining seasonal weight restrictions on all state trunkline highways in the state of Michigan. State routes typically carry I, M or US designations. 

Weight restrictions are implemented during the annual spring frost thaw period and are now completed for the 2026 season.

Effective 7 a.m. Friday, May 8, weight restrictions will be lifted on all state trunkline highways from the southern Michigan border north to and including US-2 from the Wisconsin border in Ironwood east to M-28 in Wakefield then east on M-28 to I-75, then north on I-75 to the International Bridge in Sault Ste. Marie. 

Frost restrictions are still in effect for the remainder of the state and will be imposed and enforced on all state trunkline highways north and west of the US-2/M-28/I-75 line. State routes typically carry M, I or US designations.

Know the height of your load
