  • The timing and severity of each influenza season is unpredictable. Influenza surveillance is a collaborative effort between CDC and state partners including MDHHS, as well as local and territorial health departments and more. Year-round surveillance collects data from various sources in order to:

    • Find out when and where flu activity is occurring
    • Determine what flu viruses are circulating
    • Detect changes in influenza viruses
    • Measure the impact of flu on our health care systems
