Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today launched a new state website for homeland security. The newly developed website is located at www.michigan.gov/homeland.

"In these difficult and uncertain times, it is important that Michigan citizens have a resource where they can both access the information they need to be prepared and find ways to offer their own help," Granholm said.
The website is designed to help keep Michigan families informed by giving them the most up-to-date homeland security information, so they can protect themselves in the unlikely event of emergency. The site offers direction on how citizens can support Michigan's servicemen and women and their families.
The website serves as a comprehensive source of information on homeland security issues. The new site incorporates information from federal and state agencies, including Michigan State Police, Department of Community Health, Public Service Commission, Military and Veterans Affairs, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Education.
The site offers a broad range of information, for example: what schools are doing to prepare students in case of emergency, how the Department of Agriculture is protecting our food supply, and steps that are being taken to ensure the public health of Michigan citizens. Border and travel information is also provided, as well as ways that citizens can volunteer their own time to give back to their own communities.
"Michigan's servicemen and women are true patriots. Their service can inspire us to be ‘citizen patriots' here at home," Granholm said. She encouraged Michigan citizens to consider supporting their communities by volunteering their time or expertise to a mentoring program, a reading initiative, or to the local Red Cross.
The new site includes an "Our Troops" link which gives current deployment information, what citizens can do to support families who have loved ones serving overseas, and a photo album containing pictures of some of our servicemen and women.
Citizens can retrieve this information, and more, by searching the different topic areas: Citizens and Communities, Governments, State Agencies, Our Environment, Public Health, Our Troops, and News and Updates.
