Governor Granholm Announces Recognition Day for State Employees in Michigan
May 01, 2003
Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today declared Wednesday, May 7, State Employee Recognition Day in Michigan. The day is part of the May 5-9 Public Service Recognition Week designated by the National Association of State Personnel Executives.
“May 7 marks the day that we ‘officially’ recognize the dedication and hard work state employees provide,” Granholm said, “but we truly should be celebrating their service every day. These unsung heroes are the engines that keep the wheels of state government, and our daily lives, turning. They protect our children, preserve our state parks, and process the information our families rely on.”
As part of Public Service Recognition Week and State Employee Recognition Day, Granholm announced she will host a series of “coffee breaks” for state employees at four state office buildings around the state. The events are designed to give the Governor an opportunity to personally meet and thank Michigan’s state employees for their hard work and commitment to service. Coffee breaks will be held in the Capitol Rotunda in Lansing, at the Lansing Secondary Complex in Eaton County, at the Grand Rapids State Office Building, and at the Cadillac Place State Office Building in Detroit. “I want the men and women who serve the people of Michigan to know they are my partners in moving Michigan forward,” said Granholm. “There is great nobility in the work that state employees do on behalf of Michigan’s citizens, and I simply couldn’t do my job without them.”
