Granholm Appoints Three to Saginaw Valley State University Board of Control

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced three appointments to the Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) Board of Control.
“These three dedicated individuals will work to help ensure that higher education is accessible and affordable to all Michigan citizens and that our students are receiving a quality education,” said Granholm.
David Gamez, R.N., M.A. of Saginaw, president and CEO of Health Delivery, Inc. He is replacing Sally Stegeman DiCarlow who resigned. Gamez is appointed for a term expiring July 21, 2009.
Dr. K.P. Karunakaran of Saginaw, a physician in Saginaw with a private practice. He is replacing Robert Vitito whose term expired. Karunakaran is appointed for a term expiring July 21, 2011.
Larry Sedrowski of Midland, a business agent for Iron Workers Local 25 who received his master’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University. He is replacing Raana Akbar whose term expired. Sedrowski is appointed for a term expiring July 21, 2011.
All three appointments require advice and consent of the Senate.
The SVSU Board of Control is responsible for the general supervision of the University. This includes directing expenditures from the institution’s funds; amending tuition and other fees and charges; and the appointment or removal of personnel which may include, if necessary, the election of a president for the institution.
