LANSING -- Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced that the State of Michigan will observe Friday’s national day of mourning for former President Ronald W. Reagan with a statewide moment of silence at 11:30 a.m. The moment of silence corresponds with the beginning of the official, state funeral to be held at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
On Monday, Governor Granholm directed that United States flags be flown at half-staff at all state buildings and facilities throughout the state of Michigan for 30 days through Monday, July 5, 2004, as a mark of respect for former President Reagan.
In observance of the national day of mourning, Governor Granholm has cancelled her public appearances, including the final stops on her tourism promotion initiative. She has confirmed that she, along with First Gentleman Daniel Granholm Mulhern, will attend the state funeral in Washington.
On Friday, federal offices will be closed. State offices and buildings will be open as scheduled. Local and county government offices should be contacted directly regarding information on their scheduled activities.
For those citizens wishing to send personal condolences to the Reagan family, a national, on-line condolence book has been established through the Reagan Presidential Library in California. The virtual condolence book may be accessed at www.ronaldreaganmemorial.com.
