Governor Granholm Appoints 36th District Judge Wade McCree to 3rd Circuit Court

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Judge Wade Harper McCree of the 36th District Court in Detroit to the Wayne County 3rd Circuit Court.
 
McCree, of Detroit, has served as judge in the 36th District Court since his appointment to the bench in 1996.  A graduate of Cass Technical High School, McCree received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1978 and his juris doctor degree from the Stanford Law School, California, in 1984.  McCree returned to Michigan to serve in the City of Detroit Law Department until joining the firm of Lewis, White & Munday, P.C. in 1987. 
 
McCree follows in the footsteps of his late father, the Honorable Wade McCree, Jr.  McCree, Jr. was the first African American appointed to the 3rd Circuit Court and the first African American appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan before becoming Solicitor General of the United States in 1977. 
 
"Wade brings a great wealth of intelligence and experience to the bench,” Granholm said. “He will continue to serve Michigan’s citizens with integrity and fairness on the Circuit Court.”   
 
McCree, whose term will expire January 1, 2007, replaces Judge Pamela Harwood who retired.
