Governor Granholm Announces New Appointments

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm announces the following recent appointments to various state boards and committees:

Michigan Employment Security Board of Review

Mark E. Kaufmann of Ypsilanti, international representative for the U.A.W. International Union in Detroit, appointed to represent employee interests in this state for a term expiring December 31, 2007. He succeeds Ralph Deeds whose term has expired.

Neal A. Young of Grand Rapids, reappointed to represent employer interests in this state for a term expiring December 31, 2007.

Worker’s Compensation Board of Magistrates

Murray A. Gorchow of West Bloomfield, attorney and shareholder for Martens, Ice, Geary, Klass, Legghio, Israel & Gorchow, P.C. law firm in Southfield, appointed for a term commencing June 14, 2004, and expiring January 26, 2007. He succeeds James Brakora whose term has expired.

Michigan Board of Medicine

Ernest J. Sorini, M.D. of Ann Arbor, president and CEO of Professional Emergency Care/ER-One, appointed to represent physicians for a term expiring December 31, 2007. He succeeds Harold Sauer whose term has expired.

The above appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Michigan Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee

Justus J. Fiechtner, M.D., M.P.H. of Okemos, physician/rheumatologist in private practice, appointed to represent physicians for a term expiring October 10, 2005. He succeeds Larry Lawhorne whose term has expired.

Richard L. Slaughter of Rochester, professor of pharmacy practice and assistant dean for the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences at Wayne State University, appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring October 10, 2005. He is also designated to serve as chairperson of the committee to serve at the pleasure of the Governor. He succeeds David Johnson whose term has expired.

Dean A. Van Loo of Kalamazoo, assistant professor at Ferris State University, appointed to represent pharmacists for a term expiring October 10, 2005. He succeeds James Kenyon whose term has expired.

Giovannino A. Perri, M.D., M.P.H. of Lansing, chief medical consultant for the Michigan Department of Community Health Medical Services Administration, reappointed to represent physicians for a term expiring October 10, 2005.

Max H. Robins, D.O. of East Lansing, doctor/medical consultant for the Department of Community Health, reappointed to represent physicians for a term expiring October 10, 2005.

These appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
