Governor Granholm Makes Appointment to Michigan Employment Relations Commission

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm announced the recent appointment of Nino E. Green to the Michigan Employment Relations Commission. Green, of Escanaba, is president and shareholder of Green, Weisse, Rettig, Rademacher, Clark & Bray P.C. law firm in Escanaba. The primary functions of the commission are:
•to aid management and labor in reaching amicable settlements of labor disputes by providing labor mediation services to employers and labor organizations in private industry and in the public sector;
•to determine appropriate bargaining units, provide elections for selection of bargaining representatives, certify collective bargaining representatives, and administer the law prohibiting unfair labor practices by employers and labor organizations in the public sector;
•to provide fact-finding procedures in public employee disputes, conduct elections on employer last offers in the private sector, and administer the binding arbitration procedures in police and fire department contract disputes.
Mr. Green is appointed to represent Democrats for a term expiring June 30, 2007. He succeeds Maris Stella Swift, whose term has expired.
This appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
