LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Paul Mitchell to the Board of State Canvassers.
Mr. Mitchell of St. Clair Shores is assistant director of the UAW GM Center for Human Resources. He is an honorably-discharged United States Air Force veteran, former production worker at General Motors and is a trustee of the Vinson Chapel A.M.E. Church of Clinton Township.
Mr. Mitchell is appointed to represent Democrats for a term expiring January 31, 2009. He succeeds Dorothy Jones, whose appointment to the Board was rejected by the Michigan Senate.
The Board of State Canvassers is a four-member, bi-partisan, appointed board that certifies election results for state offices as they are referred to the board by law. Also serving on the board are Katherine DeGrow, a Republican of Eaton Rapids (term expires January 31, 2007), Doyle O’Conner, a Democrat of Detroit (term expires January 31, 2007), and Lyn Bankes, a Republican of Livonia (term expires January 31, 2009.)
This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. The appointment stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
