“Cinco de Mayo is an opportunity for our state and country to celebrate the rich contribution of the Latino and Chicano people and culture. It also serves as reminder to people across the state that we must to be proud of and defend Michigan’s great heritage: our incredible diversity,” said Governor Jennifer M. Granholm. “Michigan is a place where people from all backgrounds and cultures and with a multitude of languages and customs come together to celebrate those differences and form a single, strong, statewide community. It is this sense of ‘One Michigan’ that we celebrate every fifth of May.”
