LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the Strategic Economic Investment and Commercialization Board and the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards:
Strategic Investment and Commercialization Board
Kenneth Rogers of Clarkston, executive director of Automation Alley. Mr. Rogers is appointed to represent Automation Alley for a term expiring December 31, 2007. He succeeds Hayes W. Jones who has resigned.
The Strategic Investment and Commercialization Board was established as an independent entity within the Michigan Strategic Fund to oversee the competitive grants and loans to Michigan institutions of higher education, research institutions, and nonprofit corporations for competitive edge technology projects.
Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards
Michael R. Moorman of Brighton, vice president of the Michigan State Police Troopers Association, Inc. Mr. Moorman is appointed to represent the Michigan State Police Troopers Association for a term expiring November 1, 2006. He succeeds John Sosa who has retired.
Robert J. Pickell of Flushing, Genesee County sheriff. Sheriff Pickell is appointed to represent the Michigan Sheriffs’ Association for a term expiring November 1, 2008. He succeeds Gary Rosema whose term has expired.
James W. DeVries of Grand Haven, business agent for the Police Officers Association of Michigan. Mr. DeVries is reappointed to represent the Police Officers Association of Michigan for a term expiring November 1, 2008.
Kurt R. Jones of Cheboygan, director of public safety for the Cheboygan Department of Public Safety. Mr. Jones is reappointed to represent the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police for a term expiring November 1, 2008.
Richard G. Weaver of Harrison Township, police officer with the city of Detroit and secretary/treasurer of the Detroit Police Officers Association. Mr. Weaver is reappointed to represent police associations that represent officers of police agencies employing more than 15 percent of the police officers in the state for a term expiring November 1, 2008.
The Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards serves as the oversight commission for all law enforcement and criminal justice training funds. The commission focuses on professionalism, formal in-service training, and the number of officers receiving training. Additionally, the commission is responsible for the institution of law enforcement training standards, implementation of a web-based information system available to all law enforcement, and award training grants that advance the commission’s objectives.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
