LANSING – In her weekly radio address, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today commended Detroit for the work done to revitalize the city for Super Bowl XL and beyond and reiterated her plan to provide the tools to invest in vibrant downtowns across Michigan.
“I was in downtown Detroit just yesterday as final preparations were being made for the big game, and I have to say: the Motor City is absolutely ready to welcome the world to Michigan,” Granholm said. “We need vibrant, core communities to anchor our regional economies and to be what cities have always been, centers of culture and commerce.”
For the last three years, Granholm’s administration has found ways to help Michigan cities help themselves. From investing in infrastructure, to growing new jobs and diversifying the economy, to giving all children a great education, Granholm’s plan is all about the opportunity to live a great life in one of the great cities in the Great Lakes State.
Her Jobs Today Initiative is investing $3 billion in infrastructure that’s vital to Michigan communities, from roads and bridges, to sewer repair, to brownfield cleanup, riverfront restoration and more. The $2 billion Jobs for Michigan Fund, which it being put to work this month, is a great incentive to attract businesses from other states, helping to grow Michigan’s economy and helping our cities, too.
Businesses and people moving to Michigan will find a lot to like. When CNN/Money magazine picked its best places to live in American last year, four Michigan cities made the prestigious cut: Saline, Rochester, DeWitt, and Caledonia.
“What a great statement about our quality of life, a quality of life that we’re working to maintain for all our families, wherever you live in Michigan, through a comprehensive economic plan,” Granholm said.
The Governor’s weekly radio address is released each Friday at 10:00 a.m. and may be heard on broadcast stations across the state through an affiliation with the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. This week, the address will also be available on the Governor’s Website on Friday as a podcast for general distribution to personal MP3 players and home computers.
