LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the Blue Cross Blue Shield Board of Directors, the Data Collection Agency Governing Board, the State Building Authority Board of Trustees, the Michigan Aeronautics Commission, the Upper Peninsula State Fair Board of Managers, the Michigan Beef Marketing Program Committee, and the Michigan Bean Commission:
Blue Cross Blue Shield Board of Directors
Gary H. Torgow of Oak Park, CEO of the Sterling Group. Mr. Torgow is appointed to represent the public for a term commencing February 19, 2006 and expiring February 18, 2008. He succeeds Cullan F. Meathe whose term will expire February 18, 2006.
James G. Agee of Laingsburg, president of J.G. Agee Consultants L.L.C. and co-director of the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University. Mr. Agee is reappointed to represent the public and retired individuals 62 years of age or older for a term expiring February 18, 2008.
John M. Hamilton of Bloomfield Hills, business manager and international vice president of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 324. Mr. Hamilton is reappointed to represent the public for a term expiring February 18, 2008.
Teola P. Hunter of Detroit, consultant for Sloan-Hunter Group. Ms. Hunter is reappointed to represent the public and retired individuals 62 years of age or older for a term expiring February 18, 2008.
The Blue Cross Blue Shield Board of Directors exercises authority and power necessary to carry out the lawful purposes of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Corporation. It also develops policies that benefit the quality, cost, and availability to Blue Cross Blue Shield members.
Data Collection Agency Governing Board
Bruno R. Czyrka of Grand Ledge, executive director of the State of Michigan Workers’ Compensation Agency. Mr. Czyrka is reappointed to represent the executive branch of state government for a term expiring December 31, 2006.
The Data Collection Agency Governing Board is responsible for determining workers’ compensation data requirements that establish workers’ disability compensation insurance rates.
State Building Authority Board of Trustees
Ehrlich J. Crain of Detroit, vice president of land planning and development with Crosswind Communities. Mr. Crain is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring August 21, 2009. He succeeds Dennis Cowan whose term has expired.
The State Building Authority Board of Trustees oversees the use and allocation of funds to acquire, construct, furnish, equip, renovate, operate, mortgage, and maintain facilities and equipment for the use of the State or any of its agencies, including public universities and community colleges.
Michigan Aeronautics Commission
Joyce M. Woods of Linden, director and Six Sigma and functional excellence internal consultant for Dow Automotive and president of the Michigan Aviation Association. Ms. Woods is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring May 27, 2009. She succeeds Catherine Groll who has resigned.
The Michigan Aeronautics Commission is responsible for the general supervision of all aeronautics within the state. It is empowered by state law to make rules and regulations governing all airports, flight schools, and other aeronautical activities.
Upper Peninsula State Fair Board of Managers
James R. Gale of Chassell, professor of economics and finance at Michigan Technological University. Mr. Gale is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring September 20, 2010. He succeeds Steve Palosaari whose term has expired.
The U.P. State Fair Board of Managers is responsible for controlling the lands and properties of the state designated for the purpose of holding and conducting an agricultural and industrial state fair in the Upper Peninsula.
Michigan Beef Marketing Program Committee
Scott E. Cary of Alma, owner and partner of Cary’s Pioneer Farms, Inc. Mr. Cary is appointed to represent cattle feeders for a term expiring May 31, 2008. He succeeds Kenneth Blight whose term has expired.
Randy D. Heselschwerdt of Napoleon, manager and buyer for Napoleon Livestock Commission Co. Mr. Heselschwerdt is appointed to represent cattle marketers for a term expiring May 31, 2008. He succeeds William Sheridan whose term has expired.
Garry L. Wiley of Gladwin, owner of G & Triple J Farms. Mr. Wiley is appointed to represent cattle breeders for a term expiring May 31, 2008. He succeeds Gary Voogt whose term has expired.
Michigan Bean Commission
Lawrence H. Sprague II of Durand, manager of the Michigan branch of Kelley Bean Company. Mr. Sprague is appointed to represent processors, shippers, and handlers for a term expiring December 31, 2006. He succeeds Dan Leach who has resigned.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
