LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced she will appoint Lieutenant Colonel Peter C. Munoz as director of the Michigan Department of State Police (MSP). Munoz, of Okemos, currently serves as deputy director of the field services bureau of MSP.
“With nearly 30 years on the job at MSP, Peter brings invaluable experience and expertise to his new role as director,” Granholm said. “His dedication to Michigan and to ensuring the safety of Michigan families makes him an excellent fit for this position.”
Lt. Colonel Munoz, a native of Detroit, enlisted with the department in 1978 as a member of the 95th Trooper Recruit School. His previous work includes serving as captain and district commander with the first district headquarters, serving as an EEO/Affirmative Action officer, serving as commander of the Adrian post, and serving as a sergeant in the Governor’s security section of the executive office. Munoz obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Detroit, and he is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Quantico, VA.
Lt. Colonel Munoz is appointed for a term commencing June 10, 2006 and expiring at the pleasure of the Governor. He replaces Colonel Tadarial J. Sturdivant who has resigned effective June 9, 2006.
This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
