Governor Granholm Makes Appointments to State Officers' Compensation Commission

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the State Officers’ Compensation Commission:
David L. Balas of Saugatuck, retired attorney. Mr. Balas is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2010. He succeeds Patricia R. McCarthy whose term has expired.
Belda P. Garza of Detroit, member of Detroit Public Schools Board of Education. Ms. Garza is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2010. She succeeds Maria E. Rodriguez whose term has expired.
Rev. James Holley of Detroit, reverend of Little Rock Baptist Church. Reverend Holley is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2010. He succeeds Yousif B. Ghafari whose term has expired.
Basil T. Simon of Grosse Pointe Park, attorney and president of Simon, Korachis, Stella & Zingas, P.C. law firm in Detroit. Mr. Simon is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2010. He succeeds Thomas E. Hoeg whose term has expired.
The State Officers’ Compensation Commission establishes pay and expenses for the offices of the Governor, Lt. Governor, Justices of the Michigan Supreme Court, and members of the Legislature.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
