Granholm Appoints Hughes Judge of 3rd Circuit Court

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Muriel D. Hughes as judge of the 3rd Circuit Court, which serves Wayne County.
Hughes, of Grosse Pointe Woods, has practiced as an attorney for 22 years with Hughes & Hughes, P.C. law firm. She has also served as Wayne County Public Administrator since 1987, as a mediator to the Wayne County Circuit Court, a case evaluator for Wayne County Probate Court, and as a judicial clerk for the Wayne County Circuit Court while in law school. Hughes is also a licensed real estate broker.
Ms. Hughes earned her law degree from the University of Detroit Law School in 1983 and graduated from St. Mary's College, Notre Dame.
She replaces The Honorable Sean Cox who has been appointed to U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Her term expires January 1, 2009.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
