Governor Granholm Makes Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments to the State Exposition and Fairgrounds Authority Board and the Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science:

State Exposition and Fairgrounds Authority Board

Thomas G. Coon, Ph.D. of Williamston, professor and director of the Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) program.  Dr. Coon is reappointed to represent Democrats and agricultural interests for a term expiring February 28, 2009.

Mark T. Gaffney of Dearborn, president of Michigan AFL-CIO.  Mr. Gaffney is reappointed to represent Democrats and organized labor for a term expiring February 28, 2009.

The State Exposition and Fairgrounds Authority Board is a bipartisan panel responsible for sponsoring the Michigan State Fair and for promoting additional year-round events at the site.  The group is also charged with the annual development and submission of a rolling five-year operational plan to the Department of Management and Budget, the Legislature, and the governor.

Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science

Christine S. Daggett of Big Rapids, owner and manager of Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home Inc.  Ms. Daggett is appointed to represent professionals for a term expiring June 30, 2010.  She succeeds Harold Doll whose term has expired.

Daniel P. Dwyer of Flat Rock, president of Michigan Memorial Funeral Home.  Mr. Dwyer is appointed to represent professionals for a term expiring June 30, 2010.  He succeeds Martin Hollebeek whose term has expired.

The Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science provides for the licensure and regulation of mortuary science practitioners, sets qualifications and examination requirements, and provides penalties for violation of the occupational code.

These appointments and reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
