LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of the Honorable Leo Bowman as judge of the 6th Circuit Court, which serves Oakland County.
Judge Bowman, of Pontiac, has served as judge of the 50th District Court in Pontiac since 1989 and as chief judge of the court for the past five years. Prior to that, he served as the legal advisor to the Pontiac city council.
A native of Pontiac, Judge Bowman is a member of the Pontiac Veterans Group; serves on the HAVEN Domestic Violence Board and the Livingston Human Service Agency Board; and was the first vice president of the Northern Oakland NAACP, where he currently serves as a committee member for Pontiac Youth Assistance. Judge Bowman is currently serving on the American Judges Association Board of Governors and served as co-chairman of the Michigan Association of Leadership Development 80,000 in 2002 and president of the Michigan Judges Association in 2001.
Judge Bowman earned his law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, received his bachelor's degree from Oakland University, and graduated from Pontiac Central High School.
Judge Bowman is appointed for a term expiring January 1, 2009. He replaced Judge Deborah Tyner who has resigned.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval.
