LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today designated the chair of the Electrical Administrative Board and announced the following appointments to the Certificate of Need Commission, the State Boundary Commission, the Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science, and the Board of Barber Examiners:
Electrical Administrative Board
William F. Donovan of Jackson, electrical inspector for the city of Jackson, is designated chair of the board for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor. He was originally appointed to the board in September 2005.
The Electrical Administrative Board inspects wiring and its installation, establishes fees for inspections, and appoints inspectors.
This designation is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Certificate of Need Commission
Dorothy Deremo of Northville, president and CEO of Hospice of Michigan, is reappointed to represent nurses for a term expiring January 1, 2010.
The Certificate of Need Commission reviews and determines the need for new institutional health services, facilities, or organizations being offered or developed in Michigan. The commission is part of the Michigan Department of Community Health.
State Boundary Commission
Cameron G. Priebe of Taylor, mayor of the city of Taylor, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring November 15, 2009. He succeeds Vicki Barnett who has resigned.
The State Boundary Commission has the authority for annexation, incorporation, and consolidation processes involving local units of government.
Board of Mortuary Sciences
Thomas L. Starks of Saint Joseph, president of Starks and Menchinger Family Funeral Home, is appointed to represent professionals for a term expiring June 30, 2010. He succeeds Daniel P. Dwyer who has resigned.
The Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science provides for the licensure and regulation of mortuary science practitioners, sets qualifications and examination requirements, and provides penalties for violations of the occupational code.
Board of Barber Examiners
Dennis G. Sullivan of Waterford, president and owner of Denny's Hair Studio, is appointed to represent professionals for a term expiring September 30, 2009. He succeeds James R. Vreeland whose term has expired.
Walter J. Lupu of Charlotte, school director of Barber/Styling College of Lansing, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2010.
The Board of Barber Examiners licenses barbers, barber schools, barber shops, and instructors in the state. The board also has the authority to revoke and suspend licenses.
These appointments and reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
