LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
Occupational Health Standards Commission
Gary R. Novak of Howell, health, safety and environmental manager at TRW Automotive, is appointed to represent the management of principal industries in the state for a term expiring August 5, 2008.
Margaret Robinson Faville of Muskegon, secretary and treasurer of Service Employees International Union Local 79, is reappointed to represent labor for a term expiring August 5, 2010.
Satyam R. Talati of Lake Orion, general counsel of MGM Consulting Group, LLC, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring August 5, 2010.
The Occupational Health Standards Commission assists the Division of Occupational Health within the Department of Labor and Economic Growth in developing occupational health standards.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) Board and the MEDC Executive Committee
Frederick W. Hoffman of Rochester Hills, state relations director for Chrysler, is appointed to the MEDC executive committee to represent the private sector for a term expiring April 5, 2012. He succeeds Dennis R. Toffolo. Mr. Hoffman is also appointed to the MEDC board to serve at the pleasure of the governor.
Irvin Reid, Ph.D. of Detroit, president of Wayne State University, is reappointed to the MEDC executive committee to represent public agencies for a term expiring April 5, 2015.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation Board authorizes and approves the annual audit and evaluates the performance of the MEDC. The MEDC Executive Committee oversees the corporation and the CEO of the corporation.
This appointment and reappointment are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
State Council for Interstate Adult Offender Supervision
Suzanne Sonneborn of East Lansing, deputy legal counsel for the governor, is appointed to represent the executive branch for a term expiring October 31, 2010. She succeeds Michelle M. Rick whose term has expired.
The Council for Interstate Adult Offender Supervision shall exercise oversight and advocacy concerning Michigan's participation in interstate commission activities, including but not limited to, the development of policies concerning operations and procedures of the compact within the state.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Public School Employees' Retirement Board
Steven J. Jagusch of Commerce, chief executive officer and registered agent of Steven Jagusch and Associates, is appointed to represent the general public with experience in investments for a term expiring March 30, 2008. He succeeds Marc G. Whitefield who has resigned.
The Michigan Public School Employees' Retirement Board is responsible for the investigation of the morality, service, compensation, and other experiences of members and beneficiaries of the public school retirement system. The board is charged to invest and distribute any or all of the monies. Additionally, every five years the board must formulate and present a plan to direct the operation of the retirement.
This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
