LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
Advisory Council on Arab and Chaldean American Affairs
Nick Najjar of Sterling Heights, sales executive for Century 21- Travis and Associates, is appointed for a term expiring September 30, 2011. He succeeds Radwan M. Khoury whose term has expired.
The council serves in an advisory role to the governor, alerting her to pertinent issues within the largest Arab American and Chaldean American community outside of the Middle East. The council also makes recommendations about programs and policies for the betterment of Arab and Chaldean Americans in Michigan and promotes public awareness of Arab and Chaldean culture and accomplishments.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority
Gary J. McInerney of Grand Rapids, owner and president of the McInerney Law Offices in Grand Rapids, is reappointed to represent residents of the qualified county for a term expiring February 29, 2012.
The Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority was created by Act 203 of 1999 and has operational responsibility for the convention center.
This reappointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Emergency Telephone Service Committee
John F. Hunt of Belleville, emergency services solutions manager for OnStar, is reappointed to represent the general public having expertise relating to telephone systems, rural health care concerns, or emergency radio communications, dispatching, and services for a term expiring December 31, 2009.
Scott R. Temple of Highland, transport engineer for AT&T Mobility/ Cingular Wireless, is reappointed to represent commercial mobile radio service for a term expiring December 31, 2009.
The Emergency Telephone Service Committee provides solutions to problems and penalties for violations of rules and regulations regarding the installation, operation, modification, and maintenance of universal emergency number service systems within the state of Michigan.
These reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Correctional Officers' Training Council
Sherry L. Burt of Lansing, warden of Parnall Correctional Facility, is appointed to represent the Michigan Department of Corrections for a term expiring March 29, 2008, and reappointed for a term expiring March 29, 2011. She succeeds Barry L. McLemore who has resigned.
James D. Farrell of Okemos, director of the Michigan Department of Civil Service, is appointed to represent the state personnel director for a term expiring March 29, 2011.
The Correctional Officers' Training Council establishes standards and requirements regarding the training and education of state and local correctional officers.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Michigan Long-Term Care Supports and Services Advisory Commission
Raewyn J. Bower of Grand Rapids, former president of the Hutt Valley Disabled Persons Assembly in New Zealand, is appointed to represent primary or secondary consumers of long-term care supports and services for a term expiring December 31, 2009. She succeeds Sandra J. Kilde who has resigned.
William H. Mania of Southfield, resident council president of Medilodge in Bloomfield Hills, is reappointed to represent primary or secondary consumers of long-term care supports and services for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
Yolanda McKinney of Southfield, CEO and executive director of Caring Hearts Home Care, is reappointed to represent providers of Medicaid-funded long-term care supports and services for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
Hollis G. Turnham of Lansing, Michigan policy director of the Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute, is reappointed to represent direct-care staff providing long-term care supports and services for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
Toni E. Wilson of Waterford, former local long-term care ombudsman of Citizens for Better Care, is reappointed to represent primary or secondary consumers of long-term care supports and services for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
The Michigan Long-Term Care Supports and Services Advisory Commission was created by Executive Order 2005-14 and Executive Order 2006-4. The commission serves as an effective and visible consumer advocacy role for improving the quality of, and access to, long-term care supports and services.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Data Collection Agency Governing Board
Bruno R. Czyrka of Grand Ledge, deputy director of the State of Michigan Workers' Compensation Agency, is reappointed to represent the executive branch of state government for a term expiring December 31, 2008.
The Data Collection Agency Governing Board is responsible for the determination of workers' compensation data requirements for establishing workers' disability compensation insurance rates.
This reappointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
General Industry Safety Standards Commission
Regina L. Meo of Lake Orion, attorney with Regina L. Meo, P.C., is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 26, 2010. She succeeds Geraldine A. Johnson whose term has expired.
William L. Borch Jr. of Bay City, up-state business agent with Ironworkers Local Union No. 25, is reappointed to represent labor for a term expiring March 26, 2011.
Karl E. Heim of Washington, international representative with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, AFL-CIO in Warren, is reappointed to represent labor for a term expiring March 26, 2011.
Elizabeth F. M. Koto of Grosse Pointe, city planner for the city of St. Claire Shores, is reappointed to represent the management of public employers of this state for a term expiring March 26, 2011.
Jeffrey Radjewski of Chesterfield, business and finance manager of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 58, is appointed to represent labor for a term expiring March 26, 2011.
The General Industry Safety Standards Commission is responsible for promulgating standards in accordance with the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act to prevent accidents in places of employment and to protect the lives and safety of employees.
These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Commission on the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812
Donna L. Budnick of Harbor Springs, legislative services attorney for the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, is appointed to represent Native American tribes in Michigan for a term expiring December 31, 2009.
Robert A. Bury of Grosse Pointe Park, executive director and chief executive officer of the Detroit Historical Society, is appointed to represent residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2008.
Brian L. Dunnigan of Grass Lake, interim director/curator of maps and head of research and publications at the William L. Clements Library for the University of Michigan, is appointed to represent the residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
David C. Hales of Farmington Hills, social studies consultant for the Wayne Regional Educational Service Agency, is appointed to represent the residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2008.
Molly A. Luempert-Coy of Saline, regional manager of DTE Energy, is appointed to represent the residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2008.
James A. McConnell of Livonia, special projects coordinator and news editor of the Michigan Council for History Education, is appointed to represent the residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2008.
Richard G. Micka of Monroe, co-chairman of the Monroe County War of 1812 Bicentennial Experiential Tourism Subcommittee, chairman of the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance, and retired vice president of La-Z-Boy Incorporated, is appointed to represent the residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
Patricia E. Mooradian of Bloomfield Hills, president of The Henry Ford, is appointed to represent the residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2009
Dennis E. Moore of Dearborn, public affairs officer for the consulate general of Canada, is appointed to represent the residents of this state for a term December 31, 2009.
Ralph T. Naveaux of Monroe, retired director emeritus of the Monroe County Historical Museum and chairman of the Monroe County War of 1812 Bicentennial Steering Committee, is appointed to represent the residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
Phil Porter of Cheboygan, director of the Mackinac Island State Historic Parks, is appointed to represent the Mackinac Island State Park Commission for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
James E. Spurr of Portage, president of the board of directors of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society, is appointed to represent the residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
George A. Zimmermann of Okemos, vice-president of Travel Michigan, is appointed to represent Travel Michigan for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
The Michigan Commission on the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 is charged with encouraging, planning, and developing activities, events, programs, observances, and services appropriate to commemorate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812. The commission will enlist the support of private citizens, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and governmental entities in the planning and promotion of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812; in encouraging private citizens, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and governmental entities to organize and participate in War of 1812 Bicentennial activities; and in researching and promoting the development of cultural, historical, and economic development opportunities in connection with the War of 1812 Bicentennial.

Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council
Charis A. Austin of Wyoming, client advocate for the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, is appointed to represent blind persons for a term expiring December 31, 2009.
Barbara A. Barton of Kalamazoo, assistant professor with the Western Michigan University School of Social Work, is appointed to represent persons with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2008.
Norma T. Bauer of Lansing, case manager with the Livingston County MichiganWorks! office, is appointed to represent persons with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2008.
Carol L. Bergquist, Ph.D. of Escanaba, program director of vocational rehabilitation services of the Hannahville Indian Community, is appointed to represent American Indian Vocational Rehabilitation Projects mandated by the Rehabilitation Act for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
Ronald L. Bower of North Branch, retired manager of human resources training and disability management for General Motors, is appointed to represent persons with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
Kristine E. Copeland of Livonia, former organizer and writer for the Center of Self-Determination, is appointed to represent parents and guardians of individuals with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2008.
Katherine S. Ellis of Berrien Springs, executive director of Community Connections of Southwest Michigan, is appointed to represent advocates of, and for, individuals with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2009.
Tonya V. Gaston of Detroit, retired senior administrative assistant at DaimlerChrysler, is appointed to represent persons with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
Patricia M. Hanley of DeWitt, professor at Lansing Community College, is appointed to represent persons with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2009.
Tom M. Masseau, Jr. of Lansing, director of Government & Media Relations with Michigan Protection & Advocacy Service, Inc., is appointed to represent advocates of, and for, individuals with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
Roger J. McCarville of Ortonville, owner and host of Disabilities Today TV Show on PBS, is appointed to represent persons with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
Diana S. Miller of Benton Harbor, grant partner of Community Connections Center for Independent Living, is appointed to represent persons with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2008.
James W. Moore of Traverse City, executive director of Disability Michigan/ Northern Michigan, is appointed to represent directors of centers for independent living for a term expiring December 31, 2009.
Linda L. Potter of East Lansing, executive director of United Cerebral Palsy of Michigan, is appointed to represent organizations that provide services for individuals with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2009.
Kathryn W. Wyeth of Eagle Harbor, associate director of the Michigan Disability Rights Coalition, is appointed to represent advocates of, and for, individuals with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2008.
The Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC), recently reorganized by Executive Order 2007-49, represents the interests of people with disabilities across Michigan. The council collaborates with the Michigan Commission for the Blind and Michigan Rehabilitation Services to develop and submit the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL). SILC also monitors, evaluates, and reports on implementation of the SPIL.
