LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
Michigan Potato Industry Commission
Duane L. Andersen of Lakeview, partner with Andersen Bros, LLC potato farm, is reappointed to represent chip growers for a term expiring July 1, 2010.
Patrick J. DuRussel of Manchester, vice president and treasurer of DuRussels' Potato Farms, Inc., is reappointed to represent fresh growers for a term expiring July 1, 2010.
Dennis E. Hanson of Cornell, owner of Hanson Farm, is reappointed to represent seed growers for a term expiring July 1, 2010.
Greg E. Iott of Kalkaska, co-owner of Iott Seed Farms, is reappointed to represent seed growers for a term expiring July 1, 2010.
Carl W. Kruger of Holland, senior category manager of produce and floral for Spartan Stores, Inc., is reappointed to represent fresh shippers and retailers for a term expiring July 1, 2010.
Brian R. Sackett of Mecosta, partner with Sackett Potatoes, is reappointed to represent chip growers for a term expiring July 1, 2010.
Randall D. Styma of Posen, co-owner and operator of R & E Farms, is reappointed to represent fresh growers for a term expiring July 1, 2010.
Timothy L. Young of Coral, partner with Sandyland Farms, is reappointed to represent growers at-large for a term expiring July 1, 2010.
The Michigan Potato Industry Commission is charged with increasing utilization of Michigan potatoes through market development, promotion, and research.
These reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Corn Marketing Committee
Brian A. Kreps of LaSalle, owner of Brian Kreps Farms, is appointed to represent district 4 growers for a term expiring March 5, 2009. He succeeds William L. Uphaus whose term has expired.
Thomas F. Van Sickle of Deckerville, president of West Marion Farm, Inc., is appointed to represent district 7 growers for a term expiring March 5, 2011. He succeeds Carl A. Barth whose term has expired.
Mark J. Kies of Allen, owner of Kies Farms, is reappointed to represent district 3 growers for a term expiring March 5, 2011.
The program was designed to increase the utilization of Michigan corn through foreign and domestic market development, promotion and research.
These appointments and reappointment are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Higher Education Assistance Authority
Joshua A. Lerner of Huntington Woods, partner with Cohen, Lerner & Rabinovitz, is appointed to represent citizens of the state with an interest in higher education for a term expiring May 22, 2010. He succeeds Stephen H. Terry whose term has expired.
Harvey S. Bronstein of Southfield, professor at Oakland Community College, is reappointed to represent community colleges for a term expiring May 22, 2011.
Craig C. Douglas, Ph.D. of Saginaw, superintendent of Carrollton Public Schools, is reappointed to represent secondary schools for a term expiring May 22, 2011.
Phyllis Hooyman of Holland, director of financial aid at Hope College, is reappointed to represent private colleges for a term expiring May 22, 2011.
Colleen M. McNamara of Okemos, executive director of Michigan Cable Telecommunications Association and former member of the Michigan State University Board of Trustees, is reappointed to represent Michigan State University for a term expiring May 22, 2012.
John E. Shinsky, Ph.D. of Dewitt, associate professor and chair of the school of education at Grand Valley State University, is appointed to represent state supported four-year public colleges and universities without elected governing bodies for a term expiring May 22, 2011.
Kathleen M. Wilbur of Okemos, vice president of governmental affairs for Central Michigan University, is reappointed to represent four-year colleges and universities for a term expiring May 22, 2011.
The Michigan Higher Education Assistance Authority enhances freedom of choice and equality of access to Michigan students seeking a postsecondary education. It also administers a wide variety of state and federal scholarships and grant and loan programs.
These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Veterans' Trust Fund Board of Trustees
Ronald R. Schrieber of Roscommon, department service officer for the Disabled American Veterans Department of Michigan, is appointed to represent disabled American veterans for a term expiring February 25, 2011. He succeeds Thomas L. Tomlinson who has resigned.
Edward J. Florence, Jr. of Farmington Hills, retired, is reappointed to represent American veterans of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts for a term expiring February 25, 2011.
Sandra Wilson of Saline, retired, is reappointed to represent the Vietnam Veteran's of America for a term expiring February 25, 2011.
The Michigan Veterans' Trust Fund Board of Trustees provides for temporary assistance from the earnings of funds to veterans and their dependents for emergency and educational purposes. The fund also dispenses tuition funding to children of veterans who are 100 percent disabled or who were killed in service.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention and Control Commission
Kanta Bhambhani, M.D. of Bloomfield Hills, director of the lead poisoning program for Children's Hospital of Michigan, is appointed to represent the Michigan Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
Rosalynn C. Bliss of Grand Rapids, city commissioner of the city of Grand Rapids, is appointed to represent the Michigan Municipal League for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
Daniel D. Brant of Grand Rapids, special education supervisor of early childhood services for Montcalm Area Intermediate School District, is appointed to represent the Early Childhood Investment Corporation for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
Brindly R. Byrd of Lansing, founder and president of Qx2, Inc., is appointed to represent the Michigan Association of Home Builders Remodeling Council for a term expiring December 31, 2010.
Michael A. Fehler of Muskegon, owner of Success Enterprise, Ltd, is appointed to represent lead-abatement contractors for a term commencing May 23, 2008, and expiring December 31, 2010. He succeeds Daryl K. Gallant whose term has expired.
Philip L. Schrantz of St. Johns, chief of field operations, remediation and redevelopment division with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, is appointed to represent the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for a term expiring December 31, 2010. He succeeds Robert D. Sills whose term has expired.
The Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention and Control Commission is charged with leading a statewide effort to eliminate lead poisoning in Michigan's children by 2010 by offering a wide range of initiatives and concrete recommendations for future policy direction.

Qualifications Advisory Committee
Joseph W. Murray of St. Clair Shores, chief litigation counsel for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, is appointed to represent the insurance industry for a term expiring December 7, 2011. He succeeds Richard F. Zapala whose term has expired.
Darrell R. Tennis of Olivet, co-owner of Capitol Services, Inc., is appointed to represent employee interests for a term expiring December 7, 2011. He succeeds Regina M. Meo whose term has expired.
Mary (Libby) Child, of Grand Rapids, senior consultant of workers' compensation and disability matters at Varnum Consulting, LLC, is reappointed to represent employer interests for a term expiring December 7, 2011.
David Radtke of Ferndale, attorney and partner at Klimist, McKnight, Sale, McClow & Canzano, P.C., is reappointed to represent employee interests for a term expiring December 7, 2011.
The commission reviews and rates applicants interested in serving on the Worker's Compensation Board of Magistrates and Workers' Compensation Appellate Commission.
These appointments and reappointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
Board of Veterinary Medicine
Harold E. Paulson, Jr. of Fruitport, fire marshal of Grand Haven, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2009. He succeeds Martha J. Schlesinger who has resigned.
The Board of Veterinary Medicine is responsible for the licensure and examination of veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
