LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
Board of Barber Examiners
Paul A. Data of the village of Schoolcraft, owner of Paul's Barber Shop, is appointed to represent barbers for a term expiring September 30, 2010. He succeeds Carl J. Grondin whose term has expired.
Sherry L. Freeman of Lansing, owner and operator of Union Station Barber Shop, is appointed to represent barbers for a term expiring September 30, 2010. She succeeds Henry E. Green whose term has expired.
Brian S. Lakkides of Milford, president of Corporate Plan Administrators, Inc, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring September 30, 2012. He succeeds Max J. Plante whose term has expired.
Michael E. Glasscoe of Lansing, owner of Michael G's Hair Company, is reappointed to represent barbers for a term expiring September 30, 2012.
George E. Pappas of Prudenville, owner of George's Barber/Stylist Shop and Roscommon County Road Commissioner, is reappointed to represent barbers for a term expiring September 30, 2011.
The Board of Barber Examiners licenses barbers, barber schools, barber shops and instructors. It also has the authority to revoke and suspend licenses.
These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Data Collection Agency Governing Board
John W. Schrock of Grand Ledge, assistant administrator of self-insurers programs for the Bureau of Workers' Compensation Agency, is appointed to represent the executive branch of state government for a term expiring December 31, 2008, and reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2009. He succeeds Bruno R. Czyrka who has resigned.
The Data Collection Agency Governing Board is responsible for the determination of workers' compensation data requirements for establishing workers' disability compensation insurance rates.
This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Collections Practices Board
Matthew D. Cornish of Commerce, vice president of Comerica Bank, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2009. He succeeds Raquel Reardon whose term has expired.
Thomas M. Angelo of Washington Township, president of J.J. Marshall & Associates, Inc., is reappointed to represent professionals for a term expiring June 30, 2010.
George R. Badeen of Northville, president/owner of Midwest Recovery & Adjustments, Inc. and Midwest Auto Auction, Inc, is reappointed to represent professionals for a term expiring June 30, 2011.
David E. Cairnduff of Linden, vice president of Merchants & Medical Credit Corp., is reappointed to represent professionals for a term expiring June 30, 2011.
Sharon L. McWhorter of Detroit, president of American Resource Training Systems, Inc, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2011.
Daire L. Rendon of Lake City, president of Check Alert Systems, Inc., is reappointed to represent professionals for a term expiring June 30, 2010.
The Collections Practices Board, created by Act 299 of 1980, prohibits certain collection practices, provides for licensing and regulating collection agencies, and imposes penalties for violation.

Investment Advisory Committee
David G. Sowerby of Troy, vice president and portfolio manager and chief market analyst of Loomis, Sayles and Company, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 15, 2011.
The Investment Advisory Committee shall review investments, goals, and objectives of each of the retirement funds and may submit recommendations. By a majority vote, the committee may direct the state treasurer to dispose of any holding it sees as not suitable for the fund to be involved with or, with unanimous votes, direct the state treasurer to make specific investments.
This reappointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Economic Development Corporation Board and Executive Committee
Stanley F. Pruss of St. Johns, director of the Department of Labor and Economic Growth, is appointed to represent the state for a term expiring April 5, 2010. Pruss is also appointed to the MEDC Board for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor. He succeeds Keith W. Cooley.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation Board authorizes and approves the annual audit and evaluates the performance of the MEDC. The MEDC Executive Committee oversees the corporation and the CEO of the corporation.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Michigan State Housing Development Authority
Stanley F. Pruss of St. Johns, director of the Department of Labor and Economic Growth, is appointed to represent principal department heads of the executive branch of state government for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor. He succeeds Keith W. Cooley who has resigned.
The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), a bipartisan entity, provides financial and technical assistance through public and private partnerships to create and preserve decent, affordable housing for low- and moderate-income Michigan residents. MSHDA's loans and operating expenses are financed through the sale of tax-exempt and taxable bonds and notes to private investors, not from state tax revenues. Proceeds of the bonds and notes are loaned at below-market interest rates to developers of rental housing and also help to fund home mortgages and improvement loans.

Michigan Strategic Fund Board of Directors
Linda K. Ewing of Grosse Pointe, director of research and social security departments for International Union UAW, is reappointed to represent the private sector for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
James L. Herbert of Lansing, president and CEO of Neogen Corporation, is reappointed to represent persons in the private sector with experience in commercialization of technology for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
Charles P. Rothstein of West Bloomfield, founder and senior managing director of Beringea, LLC, is reappointed to represent persons in the private sector with experience in private equity or venture capital investments for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
The Michigan Strategic Fund Board of Directors serves as the state's lead business development and finance agency.

Michigan Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery
Kathleen M. Carney of Brighton, consultant with Children's Orchard, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2012.
Douglas P. Vanator, D.O. of Olivet, osteopathic physician and surgeon in private practice, is reappointed to represent osteopathic physicians for a term expiring December 31, 2012.
The Michigan Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery is responsible for the licensure and examination of persons prior to their entry into the practice of osteopathic medicine and surgery in Michigan.
These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Board of Psychology
Robert M. Hack of West Bloomfield, owner of Associates in Divorce in Bloomfield Hills, is reappointed to represent psychologists for a term expiring December 31, 2012.
Dane K. Ver Merris, Ed.D. of Grand Rapids, licensed psychologist in private practice and adjunct professor at Western Michigan and Cornerstone universities, is reappointed to represent psychologists for a term expiring December 31, 2012.
The Michigan Board of Psychology provides for the licensure and examination of psychologists in the state.

Advisory Council for Asian and Pacific American Affairs
Rona M. Lum of Oxford, attorney at law, Law Offices of Rona M. Lum, is appointed for a term expiring April 30, 2012. She succeeds Samir Singh whose term has expired.
The Advisory Council for Asian and Pacific American Affairs is charged with serving in an advisory capacity to the governor and alerting the governor to pertinent issues within the Asian and Pacific American community. The council will also make recommendations regarding programs and policies for the betterment of Asian and Pacific Islanders in Michigan and will help promote public awareness of Asian and Pacific American culture and accomplishments.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
State Boundary Commission
Kenneth VerBurg of Lansing, professor emeritus in the Department of Resource Development at Michigan State University is reappointed as a state member for a term expiring November 15, 2011.
The State Boundary Commission has the authority for annexation, incorporation, and consolidation processes involving local units of government.
This reappointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
