Governor Granholm Announces Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
Michigan Dairy Marketing Program Committee
- Mark Halbert of Battle Creek, co-owner of Halbert Dairy Farm, is appointed to represent the Dairy Farmers of America for a term expiring December 31, 2011. He succeeds Elwood Kirkpatrick whose term has expired.
- Robert Kran of Free Soil, owner of Kran Dairy Farm, is appointed to represent the Michigan Milk Producers Association for a term expiring December 31, 2011. He succeeds Harold Cnossen whose term has expired.
- Earl Horning of Manchester, owner of Horning Farms, is reappointed to represent the Michigan Milk Producers Association for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
- Bryan Hull of Fenwick, owner of Hull's Dairy Farm, is reappointed to represent the Dairy Farmers of America for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
- Dwight Nash of Elsie, owner/operator of Nash Dairy Farm, is reappointed to represent the Dairy Farmers of America for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
The Michigan Dairy Marketing Program Committee's main focus is on research and promotion of the dairy market within the state.
These appointments and reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Bean Commission
- Michael Sahr of Saginaw, vice chairman of Michael Sahr Farms, is reappointed to represent District 8 growers for a term expiring December 31, 2011.
The commission's main focus is on research and promotion of the dry edible bean market within the state.
This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Farm Produce Insurance Authority Board of Directors
- Carl Bednarski of Caro, president of Bednarski Farms Inc., county of Tuscola, is reappointed to represent producers from the largest Michigan organization representing general farm interests in Michigan for a term expiring June 20, 2011.
The Farm Produce Insurance Authority Board of Directors, created by the Farm Produce Insurance Act passed by the Legislature, is responsible for establishing a new program in which producers of dry beans, grains, or corn could contribute a percentage of their proceeds to a new fund and could recover from the fund any losses caused by a grain dealer's financial failure.
This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Soybean Marketing Program Committee
- James E. Wilson of Yale, owner of Wilson Bros., is appointed to represent district 4 growers for a term expiring September 23, 2009. He succeeds James B. Domagalski who has resigned.
The committee works to improve the economic position of Michigan soybean growers by aiding the industry through research and development, consumer education, and promotion and advertising programs.
This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Veterans' Facilities Board of Managers
- Gerald Cool of Jasper, chairman of Lenawee County Veteran Affairs Executive Committee, is appointed to represent the Disabled American Veterans for a term expiring February 28, 2015. He succeeds Harvey Slotman whose term has expired.
- David Hall of Rock, former activities director for D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans, is appointed to represent veterans for a term expiring February 28, 2011. He succeeds Timothy Bade who has resigned.
- Mary Wilseck of Livonia, commander of the AMVETS Department of Michigan, is appointed to represent AMVETS for a term expiring February 28, 2015. She succeeds Jasper McCain whose term has expired.
The Michigan Veterans' Facilities Board of Managers, created by Public Act 152 of 1885, exercises certain regulatory and governance authority regarding admission and member affairs at Michigan's two veterans' homes. They also represent the interest of the veterans' community in both advisory and advocacy roles.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Veterans' Trust Fund Board of Trustees
- Ronald Amend of Akron, Tuscola County Veterans Affairs director, is reappointed to represent the Veterans of Foreign Wars for a term expiring February 25, 2012.
- James Lane of St. Helen, past commander of the American Legion, is reappointed to represent the American Legion for a term expiring February 25, 2012.
The Michigan Veterans' Trust Fund Board of Trustees provides for temporary assistance from the earnings of funds to veterans and their dependents for emergency and educational purposes. The fund also dispenses tuition funding to children of veterans 100 percent disabled or who were killed in service.
These reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Construction Safety Standards Commission
- Tapan Datta of Bloomfield Hills, professor with the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Wayne State University, is appointed to represent individuals actively engaged in construction operations on the employee level and public employees of this state for a term expiring March 18, 2012. He succeeds Larry Redfearn whose term has expired.
- Kathleen Dobson of Kimball, safety director for Alberici Constructors, Inc., is reappointed to represent individuals actively engaged in construction operations on the management level of this state for a term expiring March 18, 2012.
The Construction Safety Standards Commission provides rules and establishes safety standards for construction operations to protect the life and safety of construction workers in Michigan.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Public Safety Communications System Advisory Board
- James P. Buford of Detroit, director of the Wayne County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, is designated to serve as vice-chairperson for a term expiring April 30, 2011. He succeeds General Michael McDaniel whose term has expired.
- Colonel Peter C. Munoz of Okemos, director of the Department of Michigan State Police, is designated to serve as chairperson for a term expiring April 30, 2011.
The Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) is Michigan's 800 MHz radio system and telecommunications network that provides statewide interoperability in digital clarity to its members throughout the state. The MPSCS advisory board adopts procedures governing the organization and operations of the MPSCS.
These designations are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Michigan Board of Boiler Rules
- Eric Cameron of St. Clair, aftermarket services/project manager for D. J. Conley & Associates, is reappointed to represent water tube boiler manufacturers for a term expiring June 30, 2013.
- Daniel Sovinski of Newaygo, plant engineer for Ferris State University, is reappointed to represent consulting engineers for a term expiring June 30, 2013.
- Roger Jenkins of Warren, supervisor of plant operations for DTE Energy - River Rouge Power Plant, is reappointed to represent owners and users of boilers for a term expiring June 30, 2013.
- Steven Spurlock of South Rockwood, business agent for Pipefitters Local 636, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2011. He succeeds Jeffrey Appel whose term has expired.
The Board of Boiler Rules formulates definitions and rules for the safe construction, installation, inspection, and repair of boilers in this state.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission
- Marie-Ange Weng of Rochester Hills, retired professor of nursing, is appointed for a term expiring November 30, 2009.
The Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission, recently reorganized by Executive Order 2009-21, is charged with promoting awareness of the Asian and Pacific American community in the areas of economic development, social and cultural issues.
This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Michigan State Waterways Commission
- Gary Marowske of Grosse Pointe Farms, president of Flame Furnace, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring September 18, 2011. He succeeds the late Honorable Robert E. Weiss.
The Michigan State Waterways Commission is responsible for the acquisition, construction, and maintenance of recreational harbors, channels, docking and launching facilities, and administration of commercial docks in the Straits of Mackinac.
This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
