Governor Granholm Announces Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer Granholm today announced the following appointments and reappointments:

Board of Barber Examiners

Dennis G. Sullivan of Waterford, president/owner of Denny's Hair Studio, is reappointed to represent professionals for a term expiring September 30, 2013.

James F. VanDyken of Schoolcraft, retired law enforcement officer, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring September 30, 2013.

The Board of Barber Examiners licenses barbers, barber colleges, barber shops and instructors.  It also has the authority to revoke and suspend licenses.

These reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Carnival-Amusement Safety Board

Martin J. Heppler of Richland, president and owner of Riverview Recreation, Inc., is reappointed to represent carnival ride operators for a expiring July 10, 2013. 

The Carnival-Amusement Safety Board serves as an advisory body to the Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth on matters concerning the safe installation, repair, maintenance, use, operation, and inspection of all carnival/amusement rides for the protection of the general public. This reappointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Board of Counseling

Mary L. Kelley, Ed.D. of Northville, former educator, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2013. She succeeds Julian Pate III whose term has expired.

The Michigan Board of Counseling is responsible for the licensure and examination of professional counselors of the state prior to their entry into the practice of counseling.

This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

State Fire Safety Board

James A. Dundas of Commerce, fire marshal with the Southfield Fire Department, is appointed to represent organized fire departments in the Lower Peninsula for a term expiring July 15, 2011.  He succeeds Ronald Farr who has resigned.

David J. Henry, Jr. of Fruitport, executive director of Trinity Senior Living Communities, is reappointed to represent owners of adult foster care facilities for a term expiring July 15, 2013.

Greg M. Herman of Clinton Township, president and business agent with the Sprinkler Fitters Local 704, is reappointed to represent the building trades for a term expiring July 15, 2013. 

William H. Mayes of Lansing, executive director of the Michigan Association of School Administrators, is reappointed to represent persons who are members or employed by a statewide association representing school board members or school administrators for a term expiring July 15, 2013. 

Richard S. Prestage of St. Louis, president of Schnepp Health Care Center, is reappointed to represent the nursing home industry for a term expiring July 15, 2013.

John C. Wozniak of Belmont, fuels and propane assistant manager of Crystal Flash Energy, is reappointed to represent the flammable liquids industry for a term expiring July 15, 2013. 

The State Fire Safety Board has the mission of protecting life and property from fire, smoke, hazardous materials, and fire-related panic in specific types of public facilities throughout the state of Michigan.

These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Board of Nursing

Earl G. Auty, CRNA, MS of Grosse Pointe Park, staff nurse anesthetist at William Beaumont Hospital, is reappointed to represent nurse anesthetics for a term expiring June 30, 2013.

Karen A. Bowman, CDE of Lansing, nurse practitioner with Mid-Michigan Physicians, P.C., is reappointed to represent nurse practitioners for a term expiring June 30, 2013.

Nina A. Bugbee, R.N. of Flushing, president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local Union 332, is reappointed to represent registered professional nurses with a baccalaureate degree engaged in nursing practice or nursing administration for a term expiring June 30, 2013.

Kathleen A. V. Lavery, CNM of Jackson, owner of Everyday Blessings Midwifery, PLLC, is reappointed to represent nurse midwives for a term expiring June 30, 2013.

Amy M. Perry, R.N., M.S.N. of Ann Arbor, director of nursing information systems for University of Michigan Hospitals Health Centers, is reappointed to represent registered professional nurses with a baccalaureate degree engaged in nursing practice or nursing administration for a term expiring June 30, 2013.

The Michigan Board of Nursing is responsible for the interpretation of licensure and examination of registered professional nurses, licensed practical nurses, and for the certification of nursing specialists.  The board shall set minimum standards of practice and assess penalties for when those standards are not met and recommend licensure to schools that provide nursing programs. 

These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Occupational Health Standards Commission

Jim B. Cianciolo of Woodhaven, president of Teamsters Local Union No. 243, is reappointed to represent labor in the state for a term expiring August 5, 2012. 

Ricardo L. Longoria of Saginaw, training and safety officer with the Saginaw Fire Department, is reappointed to represent labor and public employees of the state for a term expiring August 5, 2012.

John E. Miller of Kawkawlin, Bay County Sheriff, is reappointed to represent public employers of the state for a term expiring August 5, 2012. 

The Occupational Health Standards Commission assists the Division of Occupational Health within the Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth in developing occupational health standards.

These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Saginaw Valley State University Board of Control

Cathy W. Ferguson of Saginaw, an attorney, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring July 21, 2017.  She succeeds D. Brian Law whose term has expired.

David R. Gamez of Saginaw, president and CEO of Health Delivery, Inc., is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring July 21, 2017.

The Saginaw Valley State University Board of Control is responsible for the general supervision of the institution and the control and direction of all expenditures from the institution's funds.

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Utility Consumer Participation Board

Alexander H. Isaac of Grand Blanc, executive director of the American Arab Heritage Council, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring January 13, 2011.

Sister Monica Kostielney, R.S.M. of Lansing, president and CEO of the Michigan Catholic Conference, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring January 13, 2011.

Marc I. Shulman of West Bloomfield, vice president of government and regulatory affairs with Comcast Cable, is reappointed to represent a qualified person submitted by the attorney general for a term expiring January 13, 2011.

Harry M. Trebing of Okemos, retired Michigan State University economics professor, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring January 13, 2011.

The Utility Consumer Participation Board ensures equitable representation of interests of energy utility customers through awarding and disbursing grants to local units of government or nonprofits seeking to intervene on behalf of residential ratepayers in gas and electric utilities.

These reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
