Governor Granholm Appoints Greg R. White to Michigan Public Service Commission

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of Greg R. White to the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC).  White, of Grand Rapids, most recently served as the MPSC legislative liaison and has been with the agency for the past 22 years.  White earned a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and a master's degree in public administration from Grand Valley State University.

White previously served as associate director at the Institute of Public Utility Regulatory Research and Education at Michigan State University.  He also was chair of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) subcommittee on nuclear issues and waste disposal.

White, an independent, is appointed to the Commission for a term expiring July 2, 2015.  He replaces Steven A. Transeth whose term has expired.

The Michigan Public Service Commission regulates investor-owned natural gas, electric and telecommunications utilities, rural electrical cooperatives, and interstate motor carriers.  The Commission also establishes safety standards and sets specific rates for services provided by the state's utilities and ensures dependable quality at reasonable rates that meets the public's needs and maintains a healthy economy for Michigan consumers.

This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth.
