LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
Advisory Council on Arab and Chaldean American Affairs:
Salma M. Ajo, Ph.D. of West Bloomfield, psychologist and director of Action Net Psychological Services PLLC, is appointed for a term expiring September 30, 2013. She succeeds Haifa Fakhouri whose term has expired.
Amal M. Berry-Brown of Dearborn, vice president, national Arab and Chaldean business affairs manager for Comerica Bank, is appointed for a term expiring September 30, 2013. She succeeds Basel K. Shatara whose term has expired.
Ron J. Boji of Orchard Lake, president of the Boji Group, LLC, is appointed for a term expiring September 30, 2013. He succeeds Samuel Nouhan whose term has expired.
Mohamad "Mike" Makki of Dearborn, director of recruitment and staffing service with the Veterans Health Administration, is appointed for a term expiring September 30, 2013. He succeeds William Salaita whose term has expired.
Angela K. Roberts of Grand Rapids, paralegal with Stenger & Stenger, P.C., is appointed for a term expiring September 30, 2013. She succeeds Oussama Siblani whose term has expired.
Abdulhakem A. Alsadah of Saline, honorary consul general of Yemen in Michigan, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2013.
Fay Beydoun of Dearborn, executive director of the Michigan Arab American Institute, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2013.
Samir A. Danou of Bloomfield Township, director of the World Trade Center Detroit/Windsor Association, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2013.
Hon. Charlene M. Elder of Dearborn, 3rd Circuit Court judge, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2013.
Karen L. Karam of Ray, broker for Karen Karam Broker, is reappointed for a term expiring September 30, 2013.
The Advisory Council on Arab and Chaldean American Affairs serves in an advisory role to the governor, alerting her to pertinent issues within the largest Arab American and Chaldean American community outside of the Middle East. It also makes recommendations about programs and policies for the betterment of Arab and Chaldean Americans in Michigan and promotes public awareness of Arab and Chaldean culture and accomplishments.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Commission for the Blind
Jo Ann Pilarski of Alpena, educator with Ella White Elementary School, is reappointed to represent blind persons for a term expiring September 30, 2012. Ms. Pilarski currently also serves as chairperson of the Michigan Commission for the Blind.
The Michigan Commission for the Blind (MCB) serves the state's estimated 50,000 blind persons through programs that include vocational rehabilitation services, independent living services, deaf blind services, youth services, the Business Enterprise Program, and the MCB Training Center.
This reappointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Collection Practices Board
James S. Gentry of Warren, owner of Gentry Services, Inc., is appointed to represent professionals for a term expiring June 30, 2013. He succeeds Charles Havill whose term has expired.
Mathew D. Cornish of Commerce, vice president of Comerica Bank, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2013.
James P. Hoppin of Bloomfield Hills, vice president of National Credit Corporation, is reappointed to represent professionals expiring June 30, 2013.
The Collections Practices Board, created by Act 299 of 1980, prohibits certain collections practices, provides for licensing and regulating collections agencies, and imposes penalties for violation.
These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Controlled Substances Advisory Commission
Harry A. Kezelian, DPM of Bloomfield Hills, podiatrist in private practice, is appointed to represent the Michigan Board of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery for a term expiring August 30, 2011. He succeeds Tara Long Scott whose term has expired.
Dennis Smith of Marquette, president and CEO of Upper Peninsula Health Plan and current member of the Controlled Substances Advisory Commission, is designated to serve as chairperson for a term expiring August 30, 2011. He succeeds Howard S. Wolpin who has resigned.
Charles L. Blanchard of Haslett, therapeutic specialty representative for Pfizer, Inc., is reappointed to represent pharmaceutical manufacturers for a term expiring August 30, 2011.
Nina A. Bugbee of Flushing, president of Teamsters Local Union No. 332, is reappointed to represent the Michigan Board of Nursing for a term expiring August 30, 2011.
David L. Dull, M.D. of Ada, vice president of quality for Spectrum Health, is reappointed to represent the Michigan Board of Medicine for a term expiring August 30, 2011.
Sarah M. Elkins of Walled Lake, law student at Michigan State University College of Law, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring August 30, 2011.
Suhair Farida, R.Ph. of West Bloomfield, manager of professional and college relations with CVS Corp., is reappointed to represent the Michigan Board of Pharmacy for a term expiring August 30, 2011.
Rhonda J. Hennessy, D.D.S. of Northville, general dentist with Romulus Family Dental, P.C., is reappointed to represent the Michigan Board of Dentistry for a term expiring August 30, 2011.
Lawrence A. Letsche, D.V.M. of Plymouth, owner and veterinarian with Remrock Farms Veterinary Services, is reappointed to represent the Michigan Board of Veterinary Medicine for a term expiring August 30, 2011.
Scott A. Monteith, M.D. of Traverse City, physician and psychiatrist with Grand Traverse Behavioral Medicine in northwest Michigan, is reappointed to represent licensed health-care professionals from the field of psychiatry for a term expiring August 30, 2011.
Claire E. Saadeh, Pharm.D. of Dewitt, associate professor in pharmacy practice at Ferris State University, is reappointed to representing pharmacologists for a term expiring August 30, 2011.
Douglas P. Vanator, D.O. of Olivet, osteopathic physician and surgeon in private practice, is reappointed to represent the Michigan Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery for a term expiring August 30, 2011.
The Controlled Substances Advisory Commission is responsible for monitoring indicators of controlled substance abuse and diversion and recommending a plan of action for overcoming such abuse and diversion.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Judicial Tenure Commission
Richard W. Long of Waterford, retired National CAP director of the UAW International Union, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2011. He succeeds Ron Rose whose term has expired.
The Judicial Tenure Commission recommends to the Supreme Court the censure, suspension with or without salary, retirement or removal of a judge for conviction of a felony, physical or mental disability preventing the performance of judicial duties, misconduct in office, persistent failure to perform duties, habitual intemperance, or conduct clearly prejudicial to the administration of justice.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Michigan Board of Psychology
Monica P. Navarro of Lake Orion, special counsel with Frank, Haron, Weiner and Navarro law firm and professor of law at Thomas Cooley Law School, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2013.
The Michigan Board of Psychology provides for the licensure and examination of psychologists in the state.
This reappointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission
Jason R. Holtz of West Bloomfield, self-employed, is appointed to represent licensees in mixed martial arts for a term expiring June 5, 2012.
Wolfgang Mueller of Canton, attorney with Olsman Mueller, P.C. law firm, is appointed to represent licensees in mixed martial arts for a term expiring June 5, 2012.
David G. Packer of Grand Rapids, executive director of the Michigan Golden Gloves Association, Inc., is appointed to represent licensees in boxing for a term expiring June 5, 2012. He succeeds Earle L. Robinson whose term has expired.
Vincent P. Viviano of Shelby Township, property manager of Leveas Properties, is appointed to represent licensees in mixed martial arts for a term expiring June 5, 2012.
James E. Weber, D.O. of Brighton, emergency physician at the University of Michigan Medical Center and ringside physician for USA boxing, is appointed to represent licensees in mixed martial arts for a term expiring June 5, 2012.
Douglas J. Maskin of Bloomfield Hills, shareholder and trial attorney for Frank R. Langton & Associates, P.C., is reappointed to represent licensees of boxing for a term expiring June 5, 2012.
Charles K. Zurawski of Milan, international servicing representative with the U.A.W. International Union, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 5, 2012.
The Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission is responsible for the regulation of professional boxing and mixed martial arts under PA 403 of 2004, as amended. The Commission is the successor to the Michigan Boxing Commission.
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
