LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today issued the following statement regarding President Obama's announcement that 12 Michigan companies will receive Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credits totaling approximately $242 million through the Recovery Act.
"The Advanced Energy Tax Credits that President Obama announced today will boost Michigan's growing clean energy economy and create new jobs for Michigan workers. Michigan is perfectly positioned to grow jobs by exporting clean energy technologies to the rest of the world. We're ready to partner with the Obama Administration and put our manufacturing workers, scientists, and engineers back to work in this emerging industry."
The 12 companies are Dow Chemical in Midland, Dow Corning in Hemlock, Energetx Composites in Holland, Great Lakes Industry in Jackson, Guardian Industries in Carleton, Hemlock Semiconductor in Hemlock, ilumisys, Inc. in Troy, Merrill Technologies Group in Saginaw, Rogers Foam Automotive in Flint, Stirling Energy Systems in Livonia, United Solar Ovonic in Auburn Hills and VenTower Industries in Monroe. The companies are involved in various forms of clean energy manufacturing, such as making components for solar panels, wind turbines and advanced batteries.
Michigan companies received more than 10 percent of the total tax credits awarded nationally, with Hemlock Semiconductor receiving the largest overall tax credit, $141.8 million. The tax credits are estimated to trigger more than $750 million in private sector investment in Michigan.
