Governor Granholm Announces Appointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:

State Building Authority Board of Trustees

Carol A. Walters of Milford, president of Walters & Associates, Inc., is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring August 21, 2013.  She succeeds John Clark whose term has expired.

Ehrlich J. Crain of Detroit, vice president of White Construction, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring August 21, 2013.

The State Building Authority Board of Trustees oversees the use and allocation of funds to acquire, construct, furnish, equip, renovate, operate, mortgage, and/or maintain facilities and equipment for the use of the state or any of its agencies.  

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Emergency 9-1-1 Service Committee

Yvette M. Collins of Lansing, Michigan government affairs area manager for AT&T, is appointed to represent commercial mobile radio service for a term expiring December 31, 2011.  She succeeds Scott R. Temple whose term has expired.

John F. Hunt of Belleville, emergency services solution manager for OnStar, is reappointed to represent the general public having expertise relating to telephone systems, rural health care concerns, or emergency radio communications, dispatching, and services for a term expiring December 31, 2011.

The Emergency 9-1-1 Service Committee develops statewide standards, models system considerations, and makes other recommendations for emergency telephone services. 

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

State Historical Records Advisory Board

Tawny R. Nelb of Midland, president of Nelb Archival Consulting, Inc., is reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2013.

The State Historical Records Advisory Board serves as a central advisory body for historical records planning and for National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC)-funded projects in the state.  The board acts as a coordinating body to facilitate cooperation and communication among historical records repositories and information agencies within the state and as a state-level review body for grant proposals that meet NHPRC grant program guidelines.

This reappointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Humanities Council Board of Directors

Jorge L. Chinea, Ph.D. of Clinton Township, director of Center for Chicano-Boricua Studies at Wayne State University, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2012.  He succeeds Marcia Warner whose term has expired.

Shakil A. Khan of Lake Orion, president of the Multicultural Council of America, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2012.  He succeeds Russell Collins whose term has expired.

Kiersten F. Latham of Pittsford, independent museum professional and history instructor at Michigan State University, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2012.  She succeeds Susanne Janis whose term has expired.

Maralyn I. O'Brien of Canton, organizer with Wellstone Action!, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2011.  She succeeds Marlee Brown who has resigned.

Eva L. Evans, Ph.D. of Lansing, retired interim superintendent of human resources for Lansing School District, is reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2012.

The Michigan Humanities Council is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering intellectual and cultural life in Michigan communities.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

State Council for Interstate Adult Offender Supervision

Honorable William E. Collette of Mason, chief judge for the 30th Circuit Court, is appointed to represent nominees of the chief justice of the Michigan Supreme Court for a term expiring October 31, 2010.  He succeeds Honorable James Fisher whose term has expired.

Ronald C. Liscombe of Detroit, policy advisor for the Office of Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, is appointed to represent the executive branch for a term expiring October 31, 2010.  He succeeds Suzanne D. Sonneborn who has resigned.

Keith G. Clark of Harper Woods, assistant prosecuting attorney for the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, is reappointed to represent crime victims for a term expiring October 31, 2013.

The State Council for Interstate Adult Offender Supervision exercises oversight and advocacy concerning Michigan's participation in interstate commission activities, including, but not limited to, the development of policies concerning operations and procedures of the interstate compact for supervision of adult offenders within the state.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Midwest Interstate Rail Passenger Advisory Commission

Timothy H. Hoeffner of Williamston, administrator for the Office of High Speed Rail and Innovative Project Advancement with the Michigan Department of Transportation, is appointed to represent the governor for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.  He succeeds Ben Kohrman. 

The Midwest Interstate Rail Passenger Advisory Commission promotes, coordinates and supports regional improvements to passenger rail service by promoting development and implementation of improvements and long-range plans for intercity passenger rail service in the Midwest; coordinates interaction among Midwestern state officials and among the public and private sector at all levels (federal, state and local); and supports current state efforts being conducted through state departments of transportation.

This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Municipal Bond Authority Board of Trustees

Roberta L. Jameson of East Lansing, director of the Office of Education and Infrastructure with the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, is appointed to represent public officials or employees with expertise in the state's infrastructure needs for a term commencing March 22, 2010, and expiring at the pleasure of the governor.  She succeeds Elaine Madigan who has resigned.

The Michigan Municipal Bond Authority Board of Trustees provides Michigan local units of government and schools an alternative source of financing for infrastructure projects and low-cost access to the public finance market.

This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board

Robert Garner of Cadillac, retired executive producer and host of Michigan-Out-of-Doors television show, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring October 1, 2013.

The Natural Resources Trust Fund Board is responsible for the acquisition of lands for resource protection and public outdoor recreation.  The board determines which lands, and rights in land within the state, should be acquired and which public recreation facilities should be developed with money from the trust fund.

This reappointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
