LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced appointments and reappointments to the Boards of Control for the following universities:
Eastern Michigan University Board of Control
Michael D. Hawks of Saugatuck, president of Governmental Consultant Services, Inc., is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2018. He succeeds Gary Hawks whose term will expire.
Erane C. Washington-Kendrick of Ypsilanti, attorney in private practice, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2018. She succeeds Phil Incarnati whose term will expire.
Western Michigan University Board of Control
John T. Cakmakci of Schoolcraft, executive vice president for the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 951, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2018. She succeeds William Martin whose term will expire.
George A. Franklin of Kalamazoo, president of Franklin Public Affairs, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2018. He succeeds Kenneth Miller whose term will expire.
Grand Valley State University Board of Control
Douglas W. Crim of Haslett, principal at Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2018. He succeeds Lucille Taylor whose term will expire.
Matthew L. Tomasiewicz of Grand Rapids, president and consultant with Anchor Associates Inc., is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2018. He succeeds Dorothy Johnson whose term will expire.
Michigan Technological University Board of Control
Terry J. Woychowski of Commerce, vice president of global vehicle program management with General Motors Company, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2018. He succeeds Ruth Reck whose term will expire.
Russell A. Gronevelt, Jr. of Plymouth, president of Orchard, Hiltz & McCliment, Inc., is reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2018.
These boards of control act as the governing body for the universities. Duties include overseeing conduct of university affairs; maintaining control of university property and the ability to fix tuition and other fees; appointing and/or removing personnel; and determining compensation to be paid for services and property.
These appointments and reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
