LANSING - Governor Jennifer Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports
Peter B. Ajluni, D.O. of Bloomfield Hills, president of Orthopedic Surgical Physicians, P.C., is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring. April 16, 2012. He succeeds Joan Lowenstein whose term has expired.
Peaches D. McCahill of Grand Rapids, owner and president of The McCahill Group, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring April 30, 2011. She succeeds Kathryn Hulteen who has resigned.
Patricia L. Ball of Bloomfield Hills, fund development and special events consultant, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring April 30, 2012.
Barry A. Franklin, Ph.D. of West Bloomfield, director of cardiac rehabilitation and exercise laboratories for William Beaumont Hospital, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring April 16, 2012.
Lila Lazarus of Commerce, television personality, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring April 16, 2012.
Nathaniel S. Ohle of Lansing, board relations liaison for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring April 16, 2012.
Richard B. Parr of Mt. Pleasant, professor in the School of Health Sciences, Central Michigan University, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring April 16, 2012.
Kirsten G. Simmons of Lansing, executive coordinator of the Michigan Food Policy Council, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring April 30, 2012.
Daniel S. Varner of Ypsilanti, CEO of Think Detroit, Inc., is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring April 16, 2012.
Daniel G. Mulhern, of Lansing, first gentleman of the state of Michigan, is designated to continue serving as the honorary vice-chairperson of the council for a term expiring June 6, 2012.
Kimberlydawn E. Wisdom, M.D. of Southfield, Michigan surgeon general, is designated to continue serving as the honorary chairperson of the council for a term expiring June 6, 2012.
The Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports is charged with coordinating and developing a statewide physical fitness and health program. The council has undertaken a number of initiatives, and partnered with several organizations to carry out their goals. Some notable events are the annual "Walk to School Day" and partnering with the Michigan Parks and Recreation Association for "Walk Michigan."
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Board of Health and Safety Compliance and Appeals
Monica J. Donofrio of Allen Park, senior director of care management and access for Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center, is appointed to represent management in the health field for a term expiring March 18, 2012. She succeeds Susan Paauwe whose term has expired.
John P. Kuriakuz of West Bloomfield, attorney in private practice, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 18, 2011. He succeeds Leopold Borrello whose term has expired. He is also designated to serve as chairperson for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor.
John M. Reilly of Mason, training director for the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 333, is appointed to represent labor in the general industry for a term expiring March 18, 2014. He succeeds John Folts whose term has expired.
Henry Yanez of Sterling Heights, firefighter and paramedic for the city of Sterling Heights, is appointed to represent employees in the health field for a term expiring March 18, 2013. He succeeds Cynthia Ostrowski whose term has expired.
Lee A. Graham of Fenton, business representative and trustee for Operating Engineers Local 324, is reappointed to represent labor in the construction industry for a term expiring March 18, 2012.
The Board of Health and Safety Compliance and Appeals reviews all contested Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) cases, including safety and health citations, orders, and appeals. The board may order testimony at hearings, compel witnesses, or require depositions, and further promulgates rules of procedure for hearings, maintaining consistency with any federal occupational safety or health standard.
These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Board of Marriage and Family Therapy
Marcia L. Royer of Alma, therapist and partner with Mid-Michigan Family Consultation Center, P.C., is appointed to represent licensed marriage and family therapists for a term expiring June 30, 2011. She succeeds Diane Jordan whose term has expired
The Board of Marriage and Family Therapy is responsible for licensing and regulation of the practice of marriage and family therapy in Michigan.
This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Board of Optometry
Gregory L. Patera, O.D. of Lake Odessa, optometrist with Grand Rapids Ophthalmology, P.C., is appointed to represent optometrists for a term expiring June 30, 2014. He succeeds Frederick Darin whose term will expire.
William D. Dansby of East Lansing, retired executive vice president of the Michigan Optometric Association, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2014.
Stephen P. Thompson, O.D. of East Lansing, optometrist in private practice, is reappointed to represent optometrists for a term expiring June 30, 2014.
Kays T. Zair of West Bloomfield, president of Security Financial Services, Inc., is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2014.
The Michigan Board of Optometry is responsible for the licensure and examination of persons prior to their entry into the practice of optometry in Michigan.
These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Osteopathic Medicine Advisory Board
Curtis A. Hertel Jr. of East Lansing, Ingham County register of deeds, is appointed for a term expiring March 26, 2012. He succeeds Lewin Wyatt whose term has expired.
Mark S. Juzych, M.D. of Bloomfield Township, associate chair of Kresge Eye Institute at Wayne State University, is appointed for a term expiring March 26, 2012. He succeeds the late Thomas Angott.
Albert L. Lorenzo, Ph.D. of Clinton Township, executive in residence at Oakland University, is appointed for a term expiring March 26, 2012. He succeeds Claud Young whose term has expired.
Dennis M. Paradis of Williamston, former executive director of the Michigan Osteopathic Association, is appointed for a term expiring March 26, 2012. He succeeds Gary Lynd whose term has expired.
Peter B. Ajluni, D.O. of Bloomfield Hills, president of Orthopedic Surgical Physicians, P.C., is reappointed for a term expiring March 26, 2014.
Melvin L. Larsen of Birmingham, president of Larsen and Associates, Inc., is reappointed for a term expiring March 26, 2014.
The Michigan Osteopathic Medicine Advisory Board advises the Board of Control of Michigan State University (MSU) on all matters pertinent to the MSU School of Osteopathic Medicine.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Michigan Board of Pharmacy
Mark H. Cousens of West Bloomfield, attorney at law, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2014. He succeeds Pamela Gnodtke whose term will expire.
Dale J. Carlson of Ferndale, administrative director of medical education at William Beaumont Hospitals, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2014.
Harvey E. Schmidt, R.Ph. of Tecumseh, president of Schmidt & Sons Pharmacy and mayor of the city of Tecumseh, is reappointed to represent pharmacists for a term expiring June 30, 2014.
Devin R. Senneker of Comstock Park, business representative for United Food & Commercial Workers Local 951, is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2014.
The Michigan Board of Pharmacy is responsible for the licensure and examination of pharmacists; licensure of pharmacies, manufacturers and wholesale distributors; and the regulation of drugs manufactured, distributed, prescribed, dispensed and administered in the state.
This reappointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
