LANSING - Governor Jennifer Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:
State Board of Accountancy
Matthew J. Howell, CPA of Franklin, partner with Deloitte & Touche LLP, is appointed to represent certified public accountants for a term expiring June 30, 2014. He succeeds Stephen Epstein whose term will expire.
Michael J. Swartz, CPA of Brighton, managing partner for Plante & Moran, PLLC in Ann Arbor, is appointed to represent certified public accountants for a term expiring June 30, 2014. He succeeds Beth Baily whose term will expire.
The State Board of Accountancy is responsible for the certification, registration, and licensing of certified public accountants and the regulation of the practice of public accounting by individuals, firms, and corporations.
These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Collection Practices Board
Thomas M. Angelo of Washington, president of J.J. Marshall & Associates, Inc., is reappointed to represent professionals for a term expiring June 30, 2014.
Daire L. Rendon of Lake City, president of Check Alert Systems, Inc., is reappointed to represent professionals for a term expiring June 30, 2014.
The Collections Practices Board prohibits certain collection practices, provides for licensing and regulating collections agencies, and imposes penalties for violation.
These reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Commission on the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812
Eric P. Hemenway of Harbor Springs, research and repatriation assistant for the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, is appointed to represent Native American tribes in Michigan for a term expiring December 31, 2013. He succeeds Donna Budnick whose term has expired.
Russell M. Magnaghi of Deerton, professor of history, head of the history department, and director of the Center for Upper Peninsula Studies at Northern Michigan University, is appointed to represent the residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2013. He succeeds Patricia Mooradian whose term has expired.
Dennis E. Moore of Dearborn, public affairs officer for the Consulate General of Canada, is reappointed to represent the residents of this state for a term expiring December 31, 2013.
The Michigan Commission on the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 is charged with encouraging, planning, and developing activities, events, programs, observances, and services appropriate to commemorate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812; enlisting the support of private citizens, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and governmental entities in the planning and promotion of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812; encouraging private citizens, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and governmental entities to organize and participate in War of 1812 Bicentennial activities; and researching and promoting the development of cultural, historical, and economic development opportunities relating to the War of 1812 in connection with the War of 1812 Bicentennial.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council
Lural A. Baltimore of Lansing, social service division director for the Department of Human Services Disability Determination Service, is appointed to represent the Department of Human Services for a term expiring September 30, 2012. She succeeds Cynthia Farrell whose term has expired.
Marlowe S. Franklin of Traverse City, Early-On parent liaison for the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District, is appointed to represent local and nongovernmental agencies and private nonprofit groups concerned with services for individuals with developmental disabilities for a term expiring September 30, 2012. She succeeds Robert Lewakowski whose term has expired.
Shana M. Holet of Lansing, inclusion vista with the Michigan Community Service Commission, is appointed to represent an individual with developmental disabilities for a term expiring September 30, 2012. She succeeds Todd Koopmans whose term has expired.
Sheryl A. Kuenzer of Manistee, teacher's aide at Trinity Lutheran School, is appointed to represent individuals with developmental disabilities for a term expiring September 30, 2012. She succeeds Melissa Anderson whose term has expired.
Michele J. LaCount of Petoskey, legislative office manager for the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, is appointed to represent immediate relatives or guardians of adults with mentally impairing developmental disabilities for a term expiring September 30, 2012. She succeeds Patricia Luker whose term has expired.
Susan A. Liebetreu of Bloomfield, consultant for the Office of Special Education and Early Intervention Services, is appointed to represent the Department of Education for a term expiring September 30, 2012. She succeeds Jane Reagan whose term has expired.
Vera P. Graham of Hope, disability advocate, is reappointed to represent local and non-governmental agencies and private nonprofit groups concerned with services for individuals with developmental disabilities for a term expiring September 30, 2012.
Sandra J. Koski of Pinckney, speech pathologist, is reappointed to represent parents or guardians of children with developmental disabilities for a term expiring September 30, 2012.
Andre K. Robinson of Detroit, volunteer, is reappointed to represent individuals with developmental disabilities for a term expiring September 30, 2012.
Judith A. Webb of East Lansing, director of Quality Management and Planning Division of the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Administration for the Michigan Department of Community Health, is reappointed to represent the Department of Community Health for a term expiring September 30, 2012.
Duncan O. Wyeth of Holt, executive director of the Michigan Commission on Disability Concerns, is reappointed to represent the Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth for a term expiring September 30, 2012.
The Michigan Developmental Disabilities Council advocates for people with developmental disabilities and develops the State Developmental Disabilities Plan.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Electrical Administrative Board
David M. Vallier of Clinton Township, district sales engineer for Cooper Bussman, is appointed to represent electrical parts manufacturers operating in this state for a term expiring August 10, 2013. He succeeds Clark Justin whose term has expired.
The Electrical Administrative Board may inspect electrical wiring and its installation and establishes fees for inspections.
This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Executive Clemency Advisory Council
Rev. Edward L. Branch of Northville, pastor with Third New Hope Baptist Church, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring at the pleasure of the governor. He succeeds Rev. Joseph Jordan who has resigned.
The Executive Clemency Advisory Council is responsible for assisting the Parole Board with the review of applications for reprieve, commutation, or pardon for the purpose of recommending to the board whether an individual application has merit.
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council
M. Kellie Boyd of Brownstown, executive director of the Disability Network for Oakland and Macomb, is appointed to represent directors of centers for independent living within this state for a term expiring December 31, 2012. She succeeds James Moore whose term has expired.
Merrill A. Friedman of Grosse Pointe Park, associate vice president of advocacy for Amerigroup Corp., is appointed to represent organizations that provide services for individuals with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2012. She succeeds Linda Potter whose term has expired.
Miranda M. Grunwell of Portage, independent living support for the Disability Network for Southwest Michigan, is appointed to represent advocates of, and for, individuals with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2012. She succeeds Katherine Ellis whose term has expired.
Renee M. Louvierre-Mitchell of Traverse City, community resource coordinator for the Disability Network for Northern Michigan, is appointed to represent individuals with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2011. She succeeds Brenda H. Keillor who has resigned.
Catherine N. Rector of Waterford, disability advocate, is appointed to represent persons with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2010 and reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2013. She succeeds the late Roger McCarville.
Harry R. Smith of Lansing, retired membership services director for MARO Employment and Training Association, is appointed to represent advocates of, and for, individuals with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2012. He succeeds Charis Austin whose term has expired.
Patricia M. Hanley of Dewitt, professor at Lansing Community College, is reappointed to represent parents or guardians of individuals with disabilities for a term expiring December 31, 2012.
The Michigan Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) represents the interests of people with disabilities across Michigan. The council collaborates with the Michigan Commission for the Blind and Michigan Rehabilitation Services to develop and submit the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL). The SILC also monitors, evaluates, and reports on implementation of the SPIL.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Strategic Economic Investment and Commercialization Board
Coffiann U. Hawthorne of East Lansing, associate with Lewis & Munday, P.C. law firm, is appointed to represent business with expertise, knowledge, skill, or experience in venture capital investments, business finance, bringing competitive edge technology products to market, or representing a qualified business for a term expiring December 31, 2013. She succeeds David Baker Lewis who has resigned.
John W. Brown of Portage, chairman and CEO of Stryker Corporation, is reappointed to represent business with expertise, knowledge, skill, or experience in venture capital investments, business finance, bringing competitive edge technology products to market, or representing a qualified business for a term expiring December 31, 2013.
The Strategic Economic Investment and Commercialization Board oversees the competitive grants and loans to Michigan institutions of higher education, Michigan research institutions, and Michigan nonprofit corporations for competitive edge technology projects.
These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963. They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
Michigan Snowmobile and Trails Advisory Council
Carolyn A. Kane of Vestaburg, member and former chair of the Michigan Trails & Greenways Alliance Board of Directors, is appointed for a term expiring January 17, 2014.
Erin D. McDonough of Williamston, executive director of the Michigan United Conservation Clubs, is appointed for a term expiring January 17, 2014.
The Michigan Snowmobile and Trails Advisory Council advises the governor and Department of Natural Resources and Environment on the creation, development, operation and maintenance of motorized and non-motorized trails in this state, including but not limited to, snowmobile, equestrian, hiking and skiing trails.
These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
Worker's Compensation Board of Magistrates
James J. Kent of East Lansing, former magistrate, is appointed for a term expiring January 26, 2011. He succeeds Valencia Jarvis who has resigned.
The Worker's Compensation Board of Magistrates functions within the Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth. Magistrates are responsible for conducting hearings in disputes that arise under the Worker's Disability Compensation Act of 1969 and hearing cases related to worker's compensation claims.
