MSEA Memberships Approve Agreement with Office of State Employer

LANSING - The Michigan State Employees Association (MSEA) today announced that the memberships of its two bargaining units have ratified the tentative agreement reached in April with the Office of the State Employer.
The agreement extends the term of the contract and provides structural change in the form of a new health-care plan for new employees hired after April 1, 2010.
"The continuous financial pressure on the state budget created by tough economic times requires structural change," said Governor Jennifer M. Granholm. "I appreciate the membership of MSEA approving this agreement to help us address these budgetary challenges."
"As Michigan citizens as well as state employees, our membership certainly understands the economic challenges everyone is facing," said MSEA President Scott Dianda. "Over the years, state workers have been willing to step up to the plate on many occasions and sacrifice when needed. By voting to approve our contract extension, MSEA members are once again demonstrating their willingness to help out."
The MSEA represents almost 4,300 state employees in two bargaining units - labor and trades, and safety and regulatory - with employees in every state department.
