Governor Granholm Announces Recent Appointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer Granholm today announced the following appointments and reappointments:

Agriculture Preservation Fund Board

June A. Bailey of Schoolcraft, owner of Bailey Terra Nova Farms, is appointed to represent agricultural interests for a term expiring June 10, 2014.

Rachel C. Kuntzsch of Grand Ledge, executive director of Heart of the Lakes Center for Land Conservation Policy, is appointed to represent residents of this state for a term expiring June 10, 2014.

Eddie A. Moore of Okemos, professor with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University, is appointed to represent residents of this state for a term expiring June 10, 2014.

Thomas C. O'Brien of Ann Arbor, attorney at Miller Canfield, is appointed to represent residents of this state for a term expiring June 10, 2014.

Wayne H. Wood of Marlette, president of the Michigan Farm Bureau, is appointed to represent agricultural interests for a term expiring June 10, 2014.

The Agriculture Preservation Fund Board oversees the Agriculture Preservation Fund and is responsible for the distribution of grants, which are given to eligible local units of government for the purchase of agricultural easements through Purchase of Development Rights programs to preserve farmland. 

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate

Michigan Beef Marketing Program Committee

Donald T. Hartman of Clio, meat merchandising manager for VG's Food Center, is appointed to represent beef retailers for a term expiring May 31, 2013.  He succeeds Robert DeYoung whose term has expired.

Jill C. Sears of Horton, owner of Sears Farms, is appointed to represent cattle feeders for a term expiring May 31, 2013.  She succeeds Charles Markley whose term has expired.

John Jay VanderBoon of Kalamazoo, cattle buyer for JBS Packerland, is reappointed to represent meat packing executives for a term expiring May 31, 2013.

The Michigan Beef Marketing Program Committee represents over 14,000 farm families involved in the production, raising and feeding of beef and dairy cattle and is charged with promoting the sale of beef and beef products. 

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Corn Marketing Program Committee

Patrick J. Feldpausch of Fowler, owner of Pat Feldpausch Farms, is appointed to represent District 6 growers for a term expiring March 5, 2013.  He succeeds Larry M. Nobis whose term has expired.

Edward T. Breitmeyer of Buckley, owner of Carrousel Farm, is reappointed to represent District 9 growers for a term expiring March 5, 2013.

Richard L. Dobbins of Concord, president of North Concord Farms, is reappointed to represent District 5 growers for a term expiring March 5, 2013.

The Michigan Corn Marketing Program Committee was designed to increase the utilization of Michigan corn through foreign and domestic market development, promotion and research.   

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Grape and Wine Industry Council

M. David Anthony of Bark River, director of Community Development & Government Affairs with Hannahville Indian Community, is appointed to represent wine grape growers for a term expiring October 9, 2011.  He succeeds Charles Edson whose term has expired.

Marie-Chantal Dalese of Traverse City, director of marketing for Chateau Chantal, is appointed to represent wine makers for a term expiring October 9, 2011.  She succeeds Robert Jacobson whose term has expired.

Timothy R. Harding of Kalamazoo, vice president of Harding's Galesburg Market, Inc., is appointed to represent operators of retail food establishments that hold specially designated merchant licenses and sell Michigan wines for a term expiring October 9, 2011.  He succeeds Amanda Danielson whose term has expired.

Richard C. Lopus, Jr. of Plymouth, vice president of Great Lakes Wine & Spirits, is appointed to represent beer and wine wholesalers who market Michigan wine for a term expiring October 9, 2011.  He succeeds Steven Arbaugh whose term has expired.

Danny B. Matthies of Lake Leelanau, owner of Chateau Fontaine Vineyards & Winery, is reappointed to represent wine makers for a term expiring October 9, 2011.

Heather A. Price of Jackson, co-owner of Sandhill Crane Vineyards, is reappointed to represent wine makers for a term expiring October 9, 2011.

The Michigan Liquor Control Code of 1998 charges the Grape and Wine Industry Council with the promotion of Michigan's wine and wine grape growing industries.  Priorities of the council are encouraging growth of the industry, promotion of Michigan wines, funding research to support wine grape growing in Michigan, and sponsoring training opportunities for industry development.  The council is funded through non-retail liquor license fees.

These appointments and reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
