Governor Granholm Announces Appointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:

Domestic Violence Prevention and Treatment Board

Shirley Mann Gray of West Bloomfield, director of clinical support services for the Children's Hospital of Michigan, is reappointed to represent persons with experience in areas related to the problems of domestic violence for a term expiring September 30, 2013.

Honorable Nathaniel C. Perry, III of Flint, 68th District Court judge, is reappointed to represent persons with experience in areas related to the problems of domestic violence for a term expiring September 30, 2013.

Kym L. Worthy of Detroit, Wayne County prosecutor, is reappointed to represent persons with experience in areas related to the problems of domestic violence for a term expiring September 30, 2013.

The Domestic Violence Prevention and Treatment Board is responsible for coordinating and monitoring programs and services for the prevention of domestic violence and the treatment of victims of domestic violence, developing and recommending policy and developing and providing technical assistance.

These reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Firefighters Training Council

Randal Agruda of Williamsburg, general manager of The Collision Center and public information officer/fire lieutenant with Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department, is reappointed to represent the Michigan Townships Association and the Michigan Municipal League for a term expiring December 31, 2014. 

Timothy A. James of Vermontville, fire chief for the Potterville/Benton Township fire department, is reappointed to represent the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs for a term expiring December 31, 2014. 

Clifford Messing of Ruth, president of Cliff A. Messing Excavating Inc. and former chief of the Delaware Township Fire Department, is reappointed to represent the State Firemen's Association for a term expiring December 31, 2014. 

The Firefighters Training Council is responsible for establishing standards, courses of study, certification of instructors, establishing regional training centers, and developing and administering mandatory certification examinations for firefighters in this state.

These reappointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Grand Valley State University Board of Control

Douglas Crim of Haslett, principal at Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2018.  He succeeds Lucille Taylor whose term will expire.

Mary Kramer of Detroit, publisher of Crain's Detroit Business, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2018.  She succeeds Dorothy Johnson whose term will expire.

The Grand Valley State University Board of Control acts as the governing body for the university.  Duties include overseeing conduct of university affairs, maintaining control of university property and the ability to fix tuition and other fees, appointing and/or removing personnel, and determining compensation to be paid for services and property.

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards

Ronald Bretz of Lansing, professor of law at Thomas Cooley Law School, is reappointed to represent individuals submitted by the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan for a term expiring November 1, 2014.

James Bosscher of McBain, Missaukee County sheriff, is reappointed to represent elected sheriffs submitted by the Michigan Sheriffs' Association for a term expiring November 1, 2014.

David Morse of Howell, Livingston County prosecuting attorney, is reappointed to represent individuals submitted by the Prosecuting Attorneys' Association of Michigan for a term expiring November 1, 2014.

Doreen Olko of Lake Orion, chief of police for the city of Auburn Hills Police Department, is reappointed to represent individuals submitted by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police for a term expiring November 1, 2014.

Richard Weiler of Sterling Heights, director of the Police Officers Labor Council, is reappointed to represent individuals nominated by the Police Officers Labor Council of Michigan for a term expiring November 1, 2014.

The Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards serves as the oversight commission for all law enforcement training funds and criminal justice training funds in Michigan.  The main focus of the commission is on professionalism, formal in-service training and number of officers receiving training as well as the institution of law enforcement training standards, implementation of a web-based information system available to all law enforcement, and award training grants that advance the objectives of the commission.

These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Natural Resources Commission

John Matonich, a Democrat, of Davison, CEO and president of Rowe Professional Services, is appointed for a term expiring December 31, 2013.  He succeeds Keith Charters whose term has expired.

John Madigan, a Republican, of Munising, owner of Munising Hardware Company and Mazzali Insurance Agency, is reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2014.

James "J.R." Richardson, a Republican, of Ontonagon, technical manager for Traxys, is reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2014.

The Natural Resources Commission, in part, provides advice to the director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment on matters relating to conservation policy. 

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board

Keith Charters of Traverse City, owner of Charters Consulting, is appointed for a term expiring October 1, 2011.  He succeeds Lana Pollock who has resigned.

Lisa Wozniak of Ypsilanti, executive director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters, is appointed for a term expiring October 1, 2014.  She succeeds Dennis Muchmore whose term will expire.

The Natural Resources Trust Fund Board is responsible for the acquisition of lands for resource protection and public outdoor recreation.  The board determines which lands and rights in land within the state should be acquired and which public recreation facilities should be developed with money from the trust fund.

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Northern Michigan University Board of Control

Larry C. Inman of Williamsburg, Grand Traverse county commissioner, is reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2018.

Douglas B. Roberts, Ph.D. of East Lansing, professor and director of the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research at Michigan State University, is reappointed for a term expiring December 31, 2018.

The Northern Michigan University Board of Control acts as the governing body for the university.  Duties include overseeing conduct of university affairs, maintaining control of university property and the ability to fix tuition and other fees, appointing and/or removing personnel, and determining compensation to be paid for services and property.

Michigan State Waterways Commission

Brian Arp of Gibraltar, councilman and mayor pro-tem for the city of Gibraltar, is appointed for a term expiring September 18, 2013.  He succeeds Michael Bryanton whose term will expire.

Michael Bryanton of East Lansing, Ingham County clerk, is appointed for a term expiring September 18, 2012.  He succeeds Carol Oakley whose term has expired.

Glen Dennis Bailey of Drummond Island, owner of Drummond Island Yacht Haven and Drummond Island Resort and Conference Center, is reappointed to represent persons residing north of townline 16 in the Upper Peninsula and individuals who own or operate a harbor or marina for a term expiring September 18, 2013.

Curtis Hertel, Sr. of Grosse Pointe Woods, executive director of the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority, is reappointed for a term expiring September 18, 2012.

Janet Mansfield of Alpena, member of the Alpena Coast Guard Auxiliary, is reappointed to represent persons residing north of townline 16 in the Lower Peninsula for a term expiring September 18, 2012.

The Michigan State Waterways Commission is responsible for the acquisition, construction, and maintenance of recreational harbors, channels, docking and launching facilities, and administration of commercial docks in the Straits of Mackinac. 

These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
