Governor Granholm Announces Recent Appointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments:

Michigan Athletic Trainer Board

Michael Abdenour of Grosse Pointe Woods, head athletic trainer for the Detroit Pistons, is appointed to represent athletic trainers for a term expiring June 30, 2014.

Lorin Cartwright of Ann Arbor, assistant principal and athletic director for Pioneer High School, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring June 30, 2014.

Rosemary Snyder of Ann Arbor, athletic trainer with the Henry Ford Health System Center for Athletic Medicine, is appointed to represent athletic trainers for a term expiring June 30, 2014.

The Michigan Board of Athletic Trainers is consulted by the Michigan Department of Community Health in the licensing and regulating of athletic trainers in Michigan.

These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Health Information Technology Commission

Joseph Hohner of Canton, senior vice president and chief information officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, is reappointed to represent nonprofit health care corporations operating pursuant to the nonprofit health care corporation reform act, 1980 PA 350, MCL 550.1101 to 550.1703 for a term expiring August 3, 2014. 

Thomas Lauzon of Shelby Township, executive vice president of Health Plan of Michigan, Inc., is reappointed to represent health plans or other third party payers for a term expiring August 3, 2014. 

Robert Paul of Novi, chief operating officer and president of Compuware, is reappointed to represent the health information technology field for a term expiring August 3, 2014. 

Larry Wagenknecht, R.Ph. of Haslett, chief executive officer of the Michigan Pharmacists Association, is reappointed to represent pharmacists for a term expiring August 3, 2014. 

The Health Information Technology Commission facilitates and promotes the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of an interoperable health care information infrastructure in this state.

These reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Board of Health and Safety Compliance and Appeals

Scott Wagner of Northville, safety director with Barton Malow Company, is appointed to represent management in the construction industry for a term expiring March 18, 2013.  He succeeds Michael Carey whose term has expired.

The Board of Health and Safety Compliance and Appeals reviews all contested Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) cases, including safety and health citations, orders, and appeals.  The board may order testimony at hearings, compel witnesses or require depositions, and further promulgates rules of procedure for hearings, maintaining consistency with any federal occupational safety or health standard.

This appointment is subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Quality Community Care Council Board of Directors

Brigitte Fawaz-Anouti of Dearborn Heights, director of social services main and special projects for ACCESS, is appointed to represent primary or secondary consumers of long-term care supports and services for a term expiring June 17, 2014.  She succeeds Hassan Jaber who has resigned.

Scott Heinzman of Livonia, is reappointed to represent consumers for a term expiring June 17, 2014.

The Michigan Quality Community Care Council Board of Directors is charged with promoting and coordinating effective and efficient personal assistance services, including the objective of creating and maintaining one or more registries of providers in designated Michigan communities.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Board of Respiratory Care

John Darin of Wyandotte, director of Respiratory Care Services at Botsford Hospital, is appointed to represent respiratory therapists for a term expiring June 30, 2014.

Julia Prins of Rochester Hills, respiratory care clinical manager with Wright & Filippis, is appointed to represent respiratory therapists for a term expiring June 30, 2014.

The Michigan Board of Respiratory Care is responsible for overseeing the licensure of respiratory therapists and reviewing and approving rules related to the scope of practice.   

These appointments are subject to Section 6 of Article V of the Michigan Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
